Florida Republican Says He’s ‘Close’ To Final 2024 Decision

-

Mayor Francis Suarez (R) appears to be inching toward a presidential run in the near future.

During a Thursday interview with , the mayor said he's “close” to deciding whether to run for the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election

“I'm close to making a decision because, you know, Aug. 20 is the first debate. I think any candidate who wants to run for president needs to be on that stage,” he said.

Suarez first hinted at a presidential run in August during an interview on Fox Business.

As American Liberty News previously reported:

“Look, it's a long way aways,” Suarez admitted to FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo last year. “Right now, I'm excited to preside over the presidency of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and try to convince other mayors across America that the Miami model works, that they need to adopt it so that they can create prosperity in their cities.”

“If that continues to work, and if Miami continues to be successful,” the mayor added, “then I think there's going to be tremendous amount of options available for me politically if I decide that I want to continue to serve.”

“We're doing our due diligence and, of course, doing what I have to do as mayor to try to continue to highlight the things that are happening in Miami,” Suarez noted, “which we think, again, should be a model for the rest of the country.”

Miami was voted the happiest city in America and the healthiest city in America. So it turns out if people are healthy, if people are happy, if they're paying low taxes, if they're working, they're not going to be committing homicide,” Suarez said. “So it's a very easy recipe for success. It can be scaled to the rest of the country, but it takes political courage.”

On Thursday, the Miami mayor emphasized the GOP's need for younger leadership in regard to a “hyper competitive landscape” in which China is becoming a greater threat and technologies like and quantum computing are becoming more prominent.

“I think in terms of the former president, I really believe in generational leadership. And I don't mean that as a buzz word. I think a lot of candidates are throwing that around as a buzz word,” he said.

“We need public officials that understand these technologies, understand how to take advantage of these opportunities and also how to regulate them for our country's benefit,” Suarez continued.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is also widely expected to enter the 2024 Republican primary later this spring.

A number of Florida lawmakers including Reps. Byron Donalds and Matt Gaetz have already publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump in the race.

  1. If he’s going to run he better do something to get his name out there because nobody knows who he is. With the mess Miami’s in it doesn’t paint a very good picture of him and his way of governing.
