For over thirty years, Democrats have maintained an advantage in the number of Americans that identify with their party over the Republicans (with a brief deadlock in 2024), but for the first time since then, the tables have turned in favor of Republicans — and pollsters insist this is significant, and should worry the Kamala Harris campaign.
Breitbart News reports:
Not only did 48 percent of respondents say they either identify as Republicans or are leaning Republican for the upcoming election — compared to just 45 percent who identified as Democrats — Gallup analysts also said that “nearly all” measures that have shown some relationship to past presidential election outcomes are favoring the GOP as well.
Gallup News explains:
By 46 percent to 41 percent, Americans say the Republican Party is better able than the Democratic Party to address what they think is the most important problem facing the country,” Gallup’s Jeffrey M. Jones wrote. “The top issues Americans currently name as the most important are ones that tend to favor the GOP, including the economy (24 percent), immigration (22 percent), the government (17 percent) and inflation (15 percent).
Party affiliation and voting are strongly predictive of individuals’ vote choices, with the vast majority of identifiers and leaners voting for the candidate of their preferred party. At the aggregate level, there are typically more Democrats and Democratic leaners than Republicans and Republican leaners in the U.S. adult population. Democrats have won presidential elections in years in which they had larger-than-normal advantages in party affiliation, including 1992, 1996, 2008, 2012 and 2020.
Republicans previously have not had an outright advantage in party affiliation during the third quarter of a presidential election year, and they have rarely outnumbered Democrats in election and nonelection years over the past three decades.
This shift indicates an extreme level of dissatisfaction with the Biden-Harris administration, and potentially with the general direction of the Democratic Party. Despite muddled messaging at their national convention in August, they have largely adopted a platform that many voters perceive as out of touch with the average American, and ultimately lowering their quality of life — like high spending in spite of inflation, high taxes, open borders, enabling criminals, and funding foreign conflicts.
One X user noted that Gallup’s polling of this has accurately predicted the popular vote, as the number of self identified Democrats seemed to directly correlate with it. In 2008, Democrats held an 8 point lead and Obama won the popular vote by 7.2 points. In 2012, Democrats led by 4 points and Obama won by 3.9, In 2016, the Democrats had a 3 point advantage and Clinton won the popular vote by 2.1 points. In 2020, the Democrats were up by 5 points, and Biden clinched the popular vote by 4.5 points. While the path to victory has much less to do with the popular vote than the electoral college, there’s a strong correlation between the two, and the if Republicans are able to win the popular vote for the first time in years, it will be a strong indicator of major shifts in the electorate.
Try as they did, Marxist Media couldn’t fool Americans into believing Harris is the Second Coming! Networks have done backflips to hide the empty skirt of Kamala.
She hasn’t answered one question from anybody that I’ve heard. She’s been a fake candidate all along. The choice of Fake News.
American voters don’t care. They see past the lies.
It renews my faith in people!
