George Santos Files To Run For 2024 Re-election Despite Scandalous History

-

Embattled freshman Congressman George Santos (R-Ny.) is betting on himself…

On Tuesday, Santos officially filed to run for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives brushing off calls from within his own party not to run again.

Santos, who represents New York's 3rd Congressional District on Long Island, has faced heavy backlash in recent months after revelations surfaced that he lied about numerous details of his life. (RELATED: Newly Sworn-in Congressman Accused of Stealing Thousands From Homeless Veteran)

The New York Congressman was accused of stealing thousands of dollars intended for a procedure to save the life of a homeless veteran's service dog, along with defrauding countless others.

Santos claimed that he instead donated the $3,000 to other dogs in need because Sapphire wasn't a candidate for surgery and Osthoff didn't do things his way, according to a text exchange viewed by Patch.

In January, Santos announced he was “temporarily” stepping down from his committee assignments after the House Ethics Committee officially launched an investigation into him.

The Long Island representative-elect is officially under investigation for potential criminal wrongdoings that may have arisen as a result of lies about his résumé, philanthropy, and even his heritage.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly — a Republican — said the investigation into the “stunning” fabrications was necessary on behalf of the people of New York's 3rd Congressional District.

Nassau County Chairman Joseph Cairo called Santos a “disgrace” after more than a dozen GOP colleagues condemned the freshman Congressman. (RELATED: Republicans Demand George Santos Resign)

“He's disgraced the House of Representatives and we do not consider him one of our congresspeople,” Cairo said concerning Santos' series of scandals.

Santos' filing of paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday doesn't mean he will definitively be a candidate for Congress, but rather that he was meeting a demand by the organization to declare his intentions after reaching a certain fundraising threshold.

  1. Though I personally think he’s a disgrace, it’s up to his constituency whether he stays in office or not.
Politicians Lie, that’s an accepted fact. I would point out that Santos’s Lies are nowhere near as bad as Biden’s or Harris’s Lies.
