With only hours until the GOP officially takes control of Congress all eyes are on the race for House speaker.
Current House GOP Leader and presumed front-runner Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has faced a contentious uphill battle as he seeks to become Speaker after a number of hardline conservatives announced they would not support his bid.
Now, only hours after McCarthy offered a number of concessions to Republican detractors, including a “motion to vacate” that would force a vote on ousting the speaker with the approval of five Republican members Virginia Congressman Bob Good says he won’t be voting for the California Republican. On Monday, Rep. Good told “Fox & Friends” that McCarthy “has done nothing” to earn his vote:
“I won’t vote for Kevin McCarthy tomorrow. He’s part of the problem. He’s not part of the solution. I’ll be following the will of my constituents, the voters from Virginia’s fifth district, hundreds of which have told me over the past couple of years not to support Kevin McCarthy. What I told them when I started my first term two years ago is I would judge him by what he did as minority leader. And there’s nothing he’s done to earn my vote. There’s nothing that indicates to me that he’s going to change his pattern since he’s been in leadership where he’s part of the swamp cartel. He’s the reason on the Republican side why we passed massive omnibus spending bills like just got rammed down our throats by Republicans in the Senate. He was part of that in leadership, since he’s been in leadership over the past eight years. There’s nothing about Kevin McCarthy that indicates that he will bring the change that’s needed to Washington or that’s needed to the Congress, or he’ll bring the fight against the Biden-Schumer agenda and represent the interests of the voters who sent us to Washington to bring real change.”
The Virginia Republican’s comments come shortly before Tuesday’s scheduled leadership election in the new GOP-controlled House, it’s unclear if McCarthy has secured the 218 votes necessary to become Speaker.
In November, House Freedom Caucus chair Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said he plans to challenge McCarthy’s Speakership bid in a floor vote.
Over the weekend, McCarthy offered a number of concessions which ultimately came up short with Republican lawmakers.
“I think what he’s trying to do is the bare minimum that he needs to try and get to where he can get the votes. And that’s not indicative of somebody that really wants to embrace new ideas, reject the status quo and unify all members in the conference,” House Freedom Caucus chair Rep. Scott Perry told The Hill.
A group of conservatives released a letter stating the changes had fallen short of what they see as necessary to support him.
“Regrettably, however, despite some progress achieved, Mr. McCarthy’s statement comes almost impossibly late to address continued deficiencies ahead of the opening of the 118th Congress on January 3rd. At this stage, it cannot be a surprise that expressions of vague hopes reflected in far too many of the crucial points still under debate are insufficient,” they wrote.
“This is especially true with respect to Mr. McCarthy’s candidacy for Speaker because the times call for radical departure from the status quo — not a continuation of past, and ongoing, Republican failures. For someone with a 14-year presence in senior House Republican leadership, Mr. McCarthy bears squarely the burden to correct the dysfunction he now explicitly admits across that long tenure.”

The first job of the new congress and our republican representatives can’t step up and show a united front. A poor start to the new way of doing business that we have been promised.
McCarthy is part of the swamp
McCarthy is an untrustworthy politician! He should not be Speaker! Never!
It’s time we got a speaker that is truly an America Conservative that is definitely not a swamp GOP follower. I don’t know who that is but I’m sure we have a guy that can cut it as a real Conservative that loves America.

Have you noticed that regardless which species of Crock gets elected, America only finds herself further along on her suicidal trek to the precipice. And it’s been that way ever since the inception of the biblically abominable Constitutional Republic.
It couldn’t be otherwise! You can’t spurn God – especially His mandatory biblical qualifications for civil leaders – and think that subsequent “leaders” will ultimately do anything toward improving American life.
Have you ever wondered just HOW America has ended up with the caliber of civil “leaders” she has today?
Could it have something to do with Article 6’s Christian test ban by which mandatory biblical qualifications were likewise eliminated? Once adopted, it was inevitable that America would be ruled by nothing but nincompoops, scoundrels, incompetents, immoral reprobates, and outright criminals. Sound familiar?
Take nincompoops, for example. Exodus 18:21’s qualifications begin with the fear of Yahweh. Kings David and Solomon point out the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Thus, without the fear of Yahweh, you end up with, at best, nincompoops as your alleged leaders.
The best you can ever get from the Constitutional Republic’s unbiblical election system is the lessers of two evils. Sometimes, the worst of the worst. And always, the evil of two lessers.

As long as you want to bring a deity into the discussion, I’ll remind you that Yahweh had a wife named Asherah. She was the fertility goddess worshipped along with Yahweh. You speak of “fear” of the deity as the beginning of “wisdom, knowledge and understanding.” Actually, as religions took over as Yahweh’s advisors, wisdom, knowledge and understanding was stifled. Seems like Asherah then took over, providing guidance over anything made of wood and anything having to do with water. That became expanded as humans became more ingenious in their creations leading to the societies in existence today. All depend on manufacture and fertility in one way or another. And the men, and some women, who did the manufacturing or farming became leaders one way or another. What then of Yahweh? He faded away. Some say he divorced Asherah. You want him back? I’d say Mrs. God is doing a pretty good job. Just folks like you who whine for returning a do-nothing. You would do better to study Karl Marx. He also was a do-nothing. Figure out how to eliminate his ruinous ideas. Maybe Mrs. God could help you there. (By the way, you don’t have to tell me that this comment is screwy. I wrote it that way on purpose!)
Jim Jordan should be elected House Speaker. He is firm, wants to do what is right for America and won’t fold like McCarthy will. McCarthy reminds me of Paul Ryan…total milk sop Republicans need to get a back bone and go with someone who will stand up and not be afraid to challenge the Democrats or Biden on things that hurt the American people!!
