In a visibly frustrated monologue on The Five Wednesday night, Fox News host Jesse Watters accused the Justice Department of allowing the Jeffrey Epstein case to “just disappear,” echoing growing frustration within conservative circles over the stalled investigation.
“Where did that whole case go?” Watters asked rhetorically. “Where did all the files go? They just went nowhere! No one even believes that.”
His comments come amid renewed scrutiny of Epstein-related documents and the government’s explanation for why no client list exists — or ever did, according to federal officials.
DOJ Says Case Is Closed — Critics Aren’t Buying It
A recent memo from the Justice Department and FBI said no prosecutions are pending and claimed that Epstein kept no “client list.” The statement, unsigned and largely dismissed by skeptics, insisted the case has been exhaustively reviewed and additional material won’t be released.
The government’s position is that further disclosures could violate victim privacy or national security protocols.
But Watters — like many across the political spectrum — isn’t satisfied.
Watters: “Pipe Bombs, Vegas, Now Epstein — Just Gone”
Watters compared the Epstein investigation to other high-profile mysteries that appeared in headlines only to fade away without resolution:
“Pipe bombs at the DNC, the Vegas shooter — things come across and then they just disappear,” he said, suggesting a pattern of government stonewalling.
Bondi’s “Client List” Comment Fuels Confusion
Fueling the fire was Attorney General Pam Bondi, who made waves in February when she told Fox News she had the Epstein client list “sitting on my desk right now.”
The appearance sparked national buzz and intensified speculation that a wave of prosecutions could follow.
At a minimum, many interpreted the comments as a signal that long-concealed truths may soon come to light.
White House Walks Back the Hype
In the aftermath, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed Bondi’s statement, clarifying that the “client list” reference was shorthand for a larger collection of Epstein-related materials, not an actual list of names tied to Epstein’s trafficking ring.
But the clarification fell flat — particularly among some in the broader MAGA movement, who saw it as yet another dodge.
Carlson Suggests Intelligence Cover-Up
On his podcast, Tucker Carlson took aim at the DOJ, alleging that Bondi’s team is sitting on key evidence.
“She said the list was on her desk. What happened to that?” Carlson asked.
The Fox News alum floated two theories. First, he acknowledged the possibility that Donald Trump could be implicated — but dismissed it.
“I don’t think he’s that guy, actually. I don’t think he likes creepy sex stuff.”
Instead, Carlson pointed to U.S. and Israeli intelligence services, claiming they may have used Epstein’s operation as leverage and are now being shielded from scrutiny.
He referenced a 2021 BuzzFeed News report which found that the CIA avoided prosecuting agents accused of child sex crimes to protect operational secrecy.
Lingering Doubts, No Clear Answers
For many Americans this isn’t about political point-scoring. It’s about basic trust in government institutions and the pursuit of justice for the powerful.
The DOJ insists the Epstein case is closed. But the public, and figures like Watters and Carlson, aren’t ready to move on.
