Comedian and late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has revealed that he recently obtained Italian citizenship and is seriously considering a move to Italy, citing deep dissatisfaction with President Trump’s second-term record.
The liberal comedian shared the revelation during a conversation with his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Silverman, on her podcast, saying the political climate in the U.S. has become “so much worse” than he anticipated.
“A lot of people I know are thinking about where they are going to get citizenship,” Silverman remarked.
“I already got Italian citizenship,” Kimmel replied.

Late night host Jimmy Kimmel announces he has secured Italian citizenship – declares Donald Trump's presidency is "so much worse" than he ever imagined.
Can we hope he will ACTUALLY leave the country? pic.twitter.com/Q1cPTRlcg1
Kimmel qualified for Italian citizenship through his maternal lineage, tracing his family roots to Ischia and Avellino. According to Italian news agency Ansa, his maternal great-grandparents emigrated from Naples to New York after the 1883 earthquake.
The Independent has more on the latest left-wing celebrity vowing to follow in Rosie O’Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres’ footsteps:
Kimmel added that he has no ill will towards former Trump supporters who are reconsidering their position, saying: “There are a lot of people… now you see these clips of Joe Rogan saying: ‘Why’s he doing this? He shouldn’t be deporting people.’ People go: ‘F*** you, you supported him.’ I don’t buy into that. I don’t believe ‘F*** you, you supported him.’
“I think the door needs to stay open,” Kimmel said. “If you want to change your mind, that’s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that’s so hard and so rare to do. You are welcome.”

In April, popular podcaster Rogan spoke out against Trump’s deportation policies. He had previously endorsed the president hours prior to the last election.
“You’ve gotta get scared that people who are not criminals are getting, like, lassoed up and deported and sent to El Salvador prisons,” Rogan said.
Rogan called the possibility “horrific” and said the optics were “bad for the cause.”
Kimmel’s announcement comes as tensions between himself and Trump intensify. Trump recently celebrated the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show and suggested Kimmel might be “next.” In response, Kimmel posted a pointed Instagram message referencing Trump’s past friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
While Kimmel has not committed to leaving, his remarks make clear he is preparing for the possibility if the political situation continues in a direction he opposes.
