Sarah Palin Loses Alaska Special Election

-

Republican lost 's to determine who would fulfill the remainder of Rep. Don Young's (R) seat to Democrat Mary Peltola.

The shocking upset is a big win for seeking to make inroads in the traditionally red state. Peltola's win is also a sigh of relief for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as Democrats hold a historically slim majority in Congress. However, Peltola will have to run in another general election for a term beginning in January.

In a statement, Peltola, who is Yup'ik Eskimo, touted her history-making win as the first Native to represent Alaska.

According to The Washington Examiner:

“I'm honored and humbled by the support I have received from across Alaska,” Peltola, 49, said. “I look forward to continuing Don Young's legacy of bipartisanship, serving all Alaskans and building support for Alaska's interests in DC.”

“Don Young worked in a very bipartisan way,” she said. “He had more seniority than any other member of the House has ever had, and he welcomed every single congressman into their position, personally. So, he had a very long history of bipartisanship, and I want to emulate that, and I want to emulate his hard work on constituent issues.”

Peltola's victory was reported after votes were counted late Wednesday as part of the state's new ranked-choice voting system. The new voting system has voters rank candidates according to their order of preference rather than choosing just one candidate. The last-place candidates are then eliminated, with their voters' subsequent choices going to their next choice's tally. The process repeats until one candidate reaches a 50%-plus-one-vote threshold.

As the third-place finisher, Nick Begich's (R) votes were redistributed to his voter's second choices, pushing Peltola over the finish line.

November's general election will follow the same ranked-choice voting system. Peltola and Palin have both qualified for the November ballot.

    • Seems they must be in the same league as California with their screwed up voting system. Now we’ll see if Sara can come back in November and win the general election.

  1. Maybe she is toxic to most Alaskans who know her best.
Is it to late to get a better candidate to run as a third party in November?

  2. Mary Peltola & Sarah Palin – Both of Whom are Biblically Unqualified

“Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able MEN, such as fear God, MEN of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers….” (Exodus 18:21)

“As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.” (Isaiah 3:12)

“But I suffer not a woman to … to usurp authority over the man….” (1 Timothy 2:12)

This is not to say that the men in positions of civil leadership are any more biblically qualified than are today’s women – they’re not.

You can thank Article 6’s Christian test ban (by which mandatory biblical qualifications were likewise eliminated) on both counts.

  3. It’s only temporary to fill the seat till November but even with said, what hell is wrong with these nuts in Alaska? Don’t yall want to have drilling started again? POS Biden stopped all this and the loser is Alaska. Get your ass out of the snow & ice and vote where its going to help the peop[le in Alaska and vote Republican

    • The problem is much like that of CA elections. The Repubs in Alaska allowed the dimocrats to snooker them. Alaska is a very red state, this is the first dimocrat elected in years. The numbnuts GOP in AK allowed rank choice voting system to be installed, which will ensure a Repub will never win high office in AK again. The same voting system will be in use in Nov. The AK GOP likely allowed this to happen bc Palin is a Trump supporter. Her politics are identical to Trump’s, God, country, family, strong military for defense, small gov’t, low regulations, energy independent, strong 2A, strong 1A, identical to Trump’s. The GOP better get off their azzz and change the voting system back, or else Palin will lose in Nov too.
