Sen. Bernie Moreno Introduces Legislation To Ban Foreign Flags On US Capitol Grounds

Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) has introduced new legislation to ban the display of foreign flags on U.S. Capitol grounds. In an exclusive statement to Breitbart News, the Ohio Senator, a legal immigrant from Colombia, expressed his outrage at the practice of flying foreign flags in the heart of American government, particularly Ukraine’s flag, which has been prominently displayed in Congress.

Moreno, who immigrated to the U.S. as a child and built a successful auto dealership business before entering the Senate, is taking a strong stand for national pride. “When I came to this country, I swore allegiance to America and America alone,” Moreno told Breitbart News. “That’s why it’s deeply offensive to me to see elected officials flying the flags of foreign nations like Ukraine in the halls of Congress.”

His frustration stems from what he views as a betrayal of the American people by those in power who prioritize foreign interests over domestic concerns. “We swore an oath to the American people we would always put them first—let’s start acting like it and stop sending billions overseas on endless wars when average Americans are struggling,” Moreno added.

The bill, named the “Allegiance Act,” proposes making it illegal for members of Congress to use official government funds to purchase any flags other than the American flag. It also seeks to prohibit the display of foreign flags on Capitol grounds.

Moreno’s bill comes at a time when the debate over U.S. support for Ukraine has reached a fever pitch. Following a tense meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and President Donald Trump, in which Zelensky reportedly lashed out at Vice President J.D. Vance and Trump, tensions between the two nations have escalated. The confrontation occurred in the Oval Office during a critical moment of negotiations concerning a minerals deal between the U.S. and Ukraine, which has since been delayed. Zelensky’s outburst, compounded by the fact that he has continued to serve as Ukraine’s president despite his term officially expiring last May under martial law, has prompted significant criticism of his leadership.

Trump’s subsequent announcement during his joint address to Congress the following Tuesday revealed that Zelensky had written to the president, expressing regret for his behavior and signaling his willingness to negotiate peace. This development came after the U.S. administration halted military aid and ceased sharing intelligence with the embattled nation.

For Moreno, the push to ban foreign flags is part of a broader effort to shift focus back to the needs and priorities of American citizens. “This country needs to put its own people first,” he emphasized, pointing to the soaring costs of foreign interventions and the ongoing challenges faced by everyday Americans. The “Allegiance Act” is thus positioned as a symbol of his commitment to restoring national priorities in the halls of power.

The debate surrounding foreign flags on U.S. government property speaks to a larger conversation about America’s role in international conflicts and the symbolism of foreign allegiances in domestic governance. As more lawmakers, including Moreno, speak out against overreach of foreign influence in American politics, the “Allegiance Act” may become a focal point in future legislative battles over national identity and foreign policy priorities.

While the bill is still in its early stages, it reflects a growing sentiment within the Republican Party that prioritizing American values and interests should be the central focus of U.S. governance.
