President-elect Donald Trump has announced Monica Crowley as his nominee for the position of ambassador, assistant secretary of state, and chief of protocol, a senior public relations role in the State Department. The announcement was made Wednesday, underscoring Crowley’s future responsibilities overseeing high-profile events hosted by the United States.
In a statement, Trump highlighted Crowley’s upcoming role in planning and managing major national and international events, including the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026, the FIFA World Cup the same year and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Crowley, a political and foreign affairs analyst and former Fox News contributor, also served as a senior official in Trump’s administration during his first term. She took on the role of assistant secretary of the Treasury for public affairs, earning recognition for her contributions.
“Monica will be the Administration Representative for major U.S.-hosted events,” Trump said. “During my first term, Monica did an incredible job as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Public Affairs, earning the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest honor given by the Department.”
Trump further praised Crowley’s academic and professional achievements, noting her two master’s degrees and a doctorate in international relations from Columbia University. She is also a New York Times bestselling author.
“Monica will be an extraordinary representative of our country. Congratulations, Monica!” Trump concluded in his statement.
Crowley’s nomination, which requires Senate confirmation, marks her return to a high-profile public role. However, her career has not been without controversy. In 2017, she resigned from her position as senior communications director for Trump’s National Security Council following allegations of plagiarism in her 2012 bestselling book and doctoral dissertation.
If confirmed, Crowley will take on a critical diplomatic role, managing protocol and representing the United States at significant global events.
