White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) on Thursday after the congresswoman made controversial remarks accusing supporters of former President Donald Trump of suffering from a “mental health crisis.”
Crockett’s comments came during an appearance on Next Question with Katie Couric, where she claimed Trump’s popularity was a symptom of national psychological distress — only moments before calling for bipartisan unity. The juxtaposition drew swift rebuke from Republicans, and Leavitt didn’t hold back.
“I think it’s incredibly derogatory to accuse nearly 80 million Americans of mental illness,” Leavitt said at a press briefing. “The last time I checked, Jasmine Crockett couldn’t dream of winning such a majority of the public as President Trump did.”
Leavitt highlighted the wide-ranging demographic of Trump supporters — from small business owners and factory workers to nurses and law enforcement — as evidence of a broad, patriotic movement often dismissed by Washington elites.
“The America First movement, which President Trump has built, is made up of hardworking patriots — the forgotten men and women of this country,” Leavitt continued. “Jasmine Crockett should go to a Trump rally sometime and see it for herself.”
Trump made history in 2024 as the first Republican in two decades to win the national popular vote, receiving over 77 million votes, according to certified election results. That number underscored the growing strength of the America First coalition — particularly in working-class and minority communities that had previously leaned Democratic.
Rep. Crockett has developed a reputation for inflammatory rhetoric. In a March interview with MSNBC, she called Trump “an enemy to the United States” and said he posed an existential threat to democracy. She’s also floated the idea of launching impeachment proceedings against Trump if she becomes chair of the House Oversight Committee following the 2026 midterms.
In February, Crockett appeared on The View and claimed Trump’s high approval ratings were only possible because the American public is “not educated enough” to know better — a remark critics blasted as condescending and elitist.
Her latest jab at Trump supporters has only intensified criticisms that Democratic leaders are increasingly out of touch with the Americans they claim to represent.
Crockett’s remarks come as Democrats face mounting challenges. Recent polls suggest independent voters are increasingly alienated by progressive identity politics and dismissive attitudes toward dissenting views — trends that paint a dismal picture heading into 2026.
As the Trump administration continues to build its agenda around economic revitalization, border security, and American energy independence, Leavitt’s comments serve as a clear signal: attempts to smear the America First movement with sweeping insults will be called out explicitly and met with unapologetic pushback.
Whether Rep. Crockett’s strategy of incendiary rhetoric pays off in future leadership bids remains to be seen. But for now, her remarks have only further widened the cultural divide between Washington progressives and voters they’re desperate to win back.

Personally I think Jasmine Crockett suffers from a mental illness. If not that, she is just plain ignorant and presumptuous. She should not even be in congress. She is disgusting and has really bad manners. She should be thrown out of congress.
Every village has their idiot! Jasmine is replacing Sheila.
Army vet, MENSA member, proud to be mentally ill by her definition. My daughter is a primary care physician. Yep, we’re the people tearing this country down.
