SHADY COVE, OREGON — Detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide following a home invasion in Shady Cove, which occurred early Monday morning around 2 a.m. The incident began with a 911 call reporting that a homeowner had shot an intruder on Cleveland Street. Deputies and Mercy Flights medics responded to the scene, but despite life-saving efforts, the intruder was declared dead at 2:34 a.m.

The homeowner had a valid protection order against the deceased suspect. No arrests have been made, and those involved are cooperating with the investigation.

Once the investigation is concluded, findings will be submitted to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office for further review. The Sheriff’s Office, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, has withheld names and detailed information. They plan to release more details later, in coordination with the District Attorney’s Office.

This is a prime example of how an order of protection is simply a piece of paper, and that it’s ultimately up to each of us to ensure our own safety.
