In this video, “Battle Order” takes a look at troops of the Taiwanese Special Operations Forces (SOF). In terms of role, an imperfect comparison of such Special Forces (SF) and other elite troops would be that of the old US Army Long Range Surveillance units, with a dash of Army Ranger thrown in.

Taiwanese SOF are actually more similar to Chinese PLA SOF formations due to their greater focus on supporting conventional military operations. A significant part of this is their support to Taiwan’s Combined Arms Battalions, which, by doctrine, are tasked with stopping PLA amphibious assaults before a beachhead is established.
