Residents of the Twin Cities affluent suburbs have been warned by local authorities about a sophisticated criminal syndicate targeting high-end residences in the area. According to Medina Police Chief Jason Nelson, a group identified as a “South American crime ring” is responsible for a series of burglaries in the region over the past year, hitting more than 60 homes and making off with millions of dollars worth of valuables.
“These criminals know exactly what they’re doing,” Nelson told local media. “They target homes when no one is there, and they’ve never been confrontational. We’re talking about millions in stolen jewelry, and none of it is showing up locally.” The crime wave has sparked concerns in the state’s largest metropolitan area, prompting officials to urge residents to stay vigilant.
So far, leads remain scant.
Breitbart’s Warner Todd Huston provides more details, including Chief Nelson’s revelation that the criminals don’t live in the area:
“They fly into a certain part of the country, rent a car, and then drive around the Midwest committing high-end burglaries,” Chief Nelson continued. “They’re in and out of master bedrooms in under 10 minutes, taking only high-value items and leaving costume jewelry behind.”
He said that the crooks are using advanced tools, including cellphone and Wi-Fi jammers, GPS trackers, and surveillance cameras.
The chief also noted that there have been up to ten similar break-ins in Medina and added that other Minneapolis suburbs have also been targets of the crime spree. The other suburbs include Eden Prairie, Woodbury, and Lake Elmo, Nelson said.
Democrat Gov. Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate, has been an ardent fan of Joe Biden’s border crisis and has bragged about forcing Minnesota schools to have to deal with multiple languages in the classroom.
Several high-profile Minnesotans have already had their homes ransacked, including Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley and Minnesota Twins owner Jim Pohlad.
While homicides in the Twin Cities are modestly decreasing, serious crime issues like aggravated assaults and juvenile crime, particularly felonies, continue to rise.
Both Minneapolis and St. Paul are also grappling with police staffing shortages, hindering their ability to effectively respond to and manage these crime spikes.
