With less than 12 hours to go until Thursday night’s presidential debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, new remarks from Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) have come to light.
The Hill reports that in a speech on Tuesday, McConnell openly disagreed with Trump’s vilification of Biden, while maintaining that there are many compelling reasons for voting him out of office.
Speaking to an audience in Louisville, McConnell described Biden as a “good guy,” reflecting on their years working together in Washington. “I know Joe Biden pretty well. He’s a good guy; I like him personally.” (RELATED: Biden Covers Up Thwarted Illegal Migrant Terror Attack On Marine Base)
However, McConnell didn’t shy away from criticizing Biden’s policies. He argued that Biden, despite his moderate campaign in 2020, has aligned with progressives, creating a regulatory nightmare for businesses. “I never thought he was moderate in the Senate, but he ran as a moderate,” McConnell said. “But as soon as the president got elected, he pretty much signed up with the far left of the Democratic Party, which has created another set of problems for all of you who are in business.”
An Appeal to Moderate Republicans?
Al Cross, director emeritus of the Institute for Rural Journalism at the University of Kentucky and a longtime McConnell observer, said the Senate GOP leader may be sending a message to moderate Republicans who aren’t fans of Trump that they should focus on the policy differences between the candidates instead of their personalities.

“What McConnell might be trying to do here is appeal to Republicans who really don’t like Trump — just as he doesn’t really like Trump — but maybe aren’t fully focused on the policy differences and would be more inclined to vote for Trump, given that stark contrast,” Cross said.
The Kentucky senator, who is a skilled debater in his own right, argues that Biden can be taken down by focusing on his handling of the economy and inflation, and his failure to stop the massive surge of migrants across the southern border.
McConnell pointed out that former Clinton-era Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers warned Biden in May 2021 that “we’re taking very substantial risks on the inflation side” and advised tapping the brakes on fiscal stimulus to keep prices from soaring.
A Rocky Relationship and Recent Endorsement

McConnell’s relationship with Trump has been tumultuous, especially following the January 6th Capitol riot. Despite this, McConnell endorsed Trump on March 6, 2024.
The endorsement came after a series of Super Tuesday wins solidified Trump as the GOP front-runner. In his statement, the Senate power broker acknowledged that Trump had garnered significant support from Republican voters and expressed his support for Trump’s nomination. Trump Teases Debate Strategy
Trump, known for his aggressive debate style, has hinted at continuing his attacks against Biden in the upcoming debate. Speaking at a recent rally in Atlanta, Trump questioned his supporters, “Should I be tough and nasty and just say, ‘You’re the worst president in history’? Or should I be nice and calm and let him speak?”
Debate Details
The highly anticipated debate between Biden and Trump is set for Thursday, June 27 at 9 p.m. ET, hosted by CNN at their Atlanta studios. Moderated by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, the debate will be 90 minutes long with two commercial breaks. It will be broadcast live on CNN, Fox News, ABC and NewsNation and streamed on platforms like CNN.com, Max, Hulu and YouTube.
Both campaigns have agreed to rules aimed at reducing interruptions, including muted microphones when a candidate is not speaking and prohibiting the use of prewritten notes or props. The debate will take place without a live audience, a departure from traditional formats.

That treacherous bastard, McConnell is a traitor to not only his party he’s a traitor to his country. From reports I’ve seen, he even endorsed Biden. He votes WITH the Commies running our once free nation more than half the time. It’s OK not to agree some of the time, but MORE THAN HALF THE TIME? That guy needs to be kicked out of the government.
No, Mitch, Biden is most definitely NOT “a good guy”. He is a traitorous rat-bastard who is complicit in destroying the greatest country on earth. Go away, Mitch, your time is WAY past. Take your money and run. You have done your damage. As for old Joe, I think think democrats and globalists have found a way to animate the dead.
If mcConnell knew biden was not a moderate in the senate for t0 years then he had an obligation to speak up during the last election. By not doing so makes him a liar. He has to after betraying the american people like that.. it didnt matter that you liked him personnally. Time for McCOnnell to resign and cover the expensis and deaths of the people he lied to.
