Report: Senator Unveils Proposal To Avoid Government Shutdown

negotiators have unveiled a 79-page bill to fund the government until Nov. 17 in hopes of averting a shutdown.

Senate Majority Leader  (D-N.Y.) described the measure as a “bridge” to avoid a shutdown.

The Hill has more:

“Senate Democrats and Republicans, together, worked in good faith to reach an agreement on a continuing resolution that will keep the government open beyond Sept. 30,” the Democratic leader said on the floor.  

He acknowledged the agreement “won't have everything that both sides want” but argued it “will help us to achieve our immediate and necessary goal of avoiding a .”

The bill includes $4.5 billion from an Operations and Maintenance fund for the Defense Department “to remain available until Sept. 30, 2024 to respond to the situation in ,” according to the measure's text.  

The bill also includes another $1.65 billion in State Department funding for additional assistance to Ukraine that would be available until Sept. 30, 2025.

In the House, Speaker  (R-Calif.) is making another effort to reach a consensus within his own party on funding, after being repeatedly cut off.

  1. Cut the funds for Ukraine! No money for Ukraine period! This is a garbage proposal just like everything else that comes from the Senate. Funding for “OUR” government only!

  2. More like the Democrats and RINO’s worked together in good faith. I find it hard to believe that a few handfuls of decent actual Republicans would agree to such an unbridled spending boondoggle.

  3. Stop the Biden weaponizing, more spending, cut the funding for the World Health Organization/EXITTHEWHO to exact and I might not know where Ukraine is(the Baltkins) but it is not located on my street. NO MORE FUNDING FOR THE UKRAINE WAR….$6 Billion…..with a Big, B
