Libertarian-leaning Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) informed Speaker of the House Mike Johnson this morning that he's cosponsoring Marjorie Taylor Greene's motion to vacate.
Massie suggested that Johnson should follow John Boehner's example and “pre-announce his resignation,” in a post on X.
Massie stated there were several factors that broke the camel's back. These included the House's reauthorization of FISA for two years, Johnson's plan to advance aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan and the decision to pass last month's $1.2 trillion spending bill.
During a press conference on Capitol Hill, Johnson shared his defiance with reporters: “I am not resigning and it is in my view an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion when we are simply here trying to do our jobs.”
Massie informed Johnson that his resignation is the only thing that can prevent House Republicans from disintegrating prior to the upcoming election.
Last week, Johnson traveled to Mar-a-Lago, where Donald Trump praised his efforts as speaker in an effort to quell resistance from Greene and other ideological purists.
