Having the car doesn’t mean you have the talent…
A kid driving his dad’s Corvette decided he would outsmart the cops when he was recently pulled over. If you’re mature enough, right off the bat, you start seeing problems with this situation, namely that most young drivers can’t really handle the performance capabilities of a Corvette and that running from the police is a dumb thing to do. Considering this kid was dealing with Arkansas State Police, which has shown time and again how good it is at chasing down and stopping fleeing suspects, he was in for a rude awakening. Sure, a Corvette will totally outclass a police Dodge Charger or Ford Explorer. That’s exactly what happens when this chase begins. The kid uses the whole ploy that he’s stopping on the side of the road, waits until the troopers start getting out of their cars, then he slams on the accelerator like he’s the Roadrunner in Looney Tunes.
While the kid had at his fingertips plenty of raw performance, what he lacked was true driving skill. Actually, he lacked the wisdom necessary to know running from the cops was a stupid idea, and he lacked the skill necessary to stick each turn in the road. Eventually, he ends up wrecked out on the side of the road. Not only will he have to deal with getting arrested but later he’ll have to explain to dad what he did.
As some users on YouTube pointed out, if the kid had successfully slipped away from the police, his dad might have had an uncomfortable encounter later. After all, they likely got the license plate number when they pulled over the Corvette and know it’s registered to the father, so the natural assumption would be that he was the one driving. Hopefully that mess would’ve been sorted out quickly, but it would at least have made for some tense, disturbing moments. Wow…. At some point you have to STOP BEING THE DANGER TO THE PUBLIC!! Good example of tunnel vision and the “catch ‘em at all costs” mentality. This Trooper (God bless him) was on the verge of killing someone else and/or himself for a long time there. 130 over double yellows on a dark 2 lane road with traffic, absolutely insane. He’s very fortunate some drunk didn’t turn left in front of him and kill a bunch of people. As a supervisor, I’d have disciplined this guy harshly. And why didn’t the Watch Commander call it when this guy gave his speeds and admitted the suspect was out of sight? Good grief. I hope this video, however “exciting”, was intelligently evaluated and this behavior prevented from happening again. And no, I am not a “no pursuit” guy. I FULLY support lawful and responsible pursuits!! They are a necessary evil, caused by people doing bad things. Be safe, be smart. Bad guys will keep doin bad things. You can get ‘em next time.
Did the police now that it was a young kid in the car? Did they know that the father owned the car? There is a false impression in the general public that one can just go to the address listed on the registration and get the criminal. That actually rarely happens. Most criminals are caught in cars, not at their home.
We had the plate number of the thieves who stole from us; a policeman decided not chase them but rather to go to their home the next door. Long story: the police never found them at home; and of course even if they did, it would be difficult to prove who was in the car that night. We never got our belongings back.
Dumbass just learned that you cannot outrun the radio & then thought he could call daddy on the ever-present “smart” phone to bail him out of trouble. I love a happy ending!
With tag numbers, I’d have waited at the kids house. Daddy could have been standing in the driveway along with the trooper. Would have given a hundred bucks to see that greeting. Now they can call the father. “Sir, do you know where your car is? Do you know where you son is?”
If all the officer had was a traffic stop—this high-speed chase wasn’t worth the risk of endangering the lives of innocent people. Had someone been killed or seriously injured over some kid speeding this would have been horrible.
I agree this was really stupid of the police. They risked other people’s lives for miles. For what???
