Only Republicans Can Beat Themselves In Georgia

-

Any path to the White House for Republicans in 2024 runs through . Republicans must win the Peach State to win the White House. That cannot be said enough. Republicans have carried Georgia in every presidential election since 1996, except in 2020. 's narrow victory along with the election of and to the Senate led Democrats and the mainstream media to claim that Georgia was a purple state or had even turned blue.

2022 dispelled that myth. The much-heralded rematch between Stacey Abrams and turned out to be a Kemp wipeout and Republicans carried all the statewide races save for the U.S. Senate where 's baggage was the deciding factor. Georgia is and will be for the foreseeable a red state. Democrats seem resigned to this. They have no real bench of candidates and now see 2020 as a fluke. That is why they resisted the temptation to select Atlanta for the 2024 convention. If they thought Georgia was truly a toss-up or Democratic leaning, Atlanta would be the logical choice.

So, carrying Georgia in 2024 should be no major problem for Republicans? Wrong.

The is in total chaos. Many activists are still angry at Brian Kemp for not intervening in the 2020 election and somehow declaring the victor, even though he had no legal power to do so. Things are so bad that Kemp and most other statewide Republican officeholders are skipping the Georgia Republican State Convention.

At county and congressional district meetings, candidates associated with libertarian-leaning Georgia Republican Assembly captured many key posts. One, Kandiss Taylor, who challenged Brian Kemp in the Republican primary and won, less than 3% has refused to concede defeat and claims the primary was stolen from her. This might be seen as an outlier; except they are driving the Georgia . How extreme are some? So extreme that some do not see Ronald Reagan as a Republican or a conservative.

Now this group is proposing a major rule change that would further weaken and divide Georgia Republicans. At the state convention, they want a rule change in how Republican nominees are selected. They want the Georgia Republican Party to have the power to block candidates from qualifying to run as Republicans if they're deemed to be insufficiently conservative or a “traitor” to the party. Under the proposed rule change, the Georgia GOP convention could vote to prevent a political candidate from qualifying to run as a Republican in an election, giving the state party's 1,500 or so delegates authority to pick favorites in top races. They have made clear this move is targeted towards Brian Kemp whom many see as the top candidate for Senate in 2026 against Jon Ossoff.  But some from this faction claim that this power could also be used to remove presidential candidates from the primary ballot. A true recipe for disaster and chaos.

Brian Kemp, former United States Senator Kelly Loeffler and others have set up Super PACs and organizations to register voters, do voter outreach and raise money. The state party is seen as incapable of doing any of this. Many in the state party openly say they see no reason to do voter outreach to attract new voters. This comes as Stacey Abrams' groups are registering first-time voters in high school and college.

Elections are won by addition not subtraction. Winning is done by getting more of your voters out than your opponents. Georgia is a Republican state and should be the crown jewel in a Republican presidential victory. But unless the chaos within the Georgia Republican Party is fixed, Republicans will once more snap defeat from the jaws of victory in 2024.

  1. Those with any common sense, that eliminates all Democrats and most Independents who vote with the Scumbags, know exactly what happened in Georgia.

  2. I think that the REPUBLICANS must GET it TOGETHER. Otherwise it could be another LOSS which SHOULDN’T have happened in the 2022 elections. We DON’T need ANOTHER Democrat!

    • A Republican win in 2024 is a must as we have seen since 2020 how Democrat rule as president has gone so very bad for America. Regular GOP voters and Trump voters have to work together, not be at odds, or we lose 2024.

    • The GOP pretty much knows that the Atlanta, Fulton county area is pretty much a loss since they are made up of a vast majority of blacks, who always vote for the democrats. They know who provides them with the most and best freebies. The rest of the state is winnable and the republicans need to be very active in those areas, that is if they want to win.
