FBI agents on Wednesday searched the Virginia home of Washington Post journalist Hannah Natanson as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged mishandling of classified government documents.
The search was conducted under a court-authorized warrant, according. The FBI has not publicly commented on the action.
The warrant is connected to an investigation involving a Maryland-based government contractor, Aurelio Perez-Lugones. He is accused of unlawfully retaining national defense information.
Authorities have said Natanson is not the target of the investigation.
During the search, agents seized Natanson’s cellphone and a Garmin watch. Agents also took two laptops, one personal and one issued by The Washington Post, along with additional electronic devices.
It is unclear how long the devices will be held or what information investigators are seeking from them.
Natanson was told she is not the focus of the probe. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department has released further details about the search or the broader investigation.
