Just one look at the 2019 Dodge Charger 25-year-old Alan Tienda was driving is enough to make one appreciate how he almost died. With the driver's side concaved thanks to 41-year-old Gilberto Salas Guerra reportedly T-boning the Mopar with his 2012 Ford F-150 before driving off on the evening of October 13 in Dallas, Texas.
As reported by local news outlet Fox 4, Tienda and his wife, who was in the passenger seat, both were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Thankfully they both survived but have a long road to recovery ahead of them.
Tienda has recovered from bleeding to his brain but has other injuries. His wife suffered head injuries as well, plus a broken pelvis and shoulder. She's still in the hospital.
In the meantime, Immigration and Customs Enforcement have asked the Dallas County Jail to hold Guerra without bail. Guerra, who is in the US illegally, is obviously a flight risk. Considering he's facing five counts of collision involving injury or bodily harm, it's no wonder he might just disappear and duck the consequences of his actions. Allegedly, he reached out to an ex-girlfriend for a ride, but we don't know where he wanted her to take him.
According to police, Guerra blew through a red light, so he was entirely at fault for the crash. We can't imagine he won't be charged for fleeing the scene, but there's no indication he's been charged for that yet.
At first authorities launched a massive hunt for the driver of the F-150. When they found the truck, which had been abandoned, it was not only registered to Guerra but contained his Mexican passport. Â That made finding the guy not nearly as difficult as originally feared.
It's worth noting the F-150 had paper plates, something Texas will outlaw in the near future.
