Mark Meadows Files Emergency Motion To Avoid Arrest

-

Former White House Chief of Staff is asking a federal court for more time before surrendering to Georgia authorities.

Meadows hopes to prevent Fulton County DA from ordering his arrest if he doesn't voluntarily surrender before her Friday deadline.

Willis was unmoved by requests from Meadows' attorney to extend the Friday deadline. “Your client is no different than any other criminal defendant in this jurisdiction,” she said at one point.

Meadows' team hopes the emergency motion will shield their client from arrest in Willis' case. The motion asks the court to order Willis not to seek Meadows' arrest before Monday, Aug. 28.

FOX 5 Atlanta reports:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis gave Meadows, former President and 17 other defendants until noon Aug. 25 to turn themselves into Fulton County authorities.

Meadows asked for “a modest extension of that [Friday at Noon] deadline,” and had hoped to “be prepared to meet and confer … immediately following the federal court hearing—which is scheduled for less than one business day after the current deadline”—to “discuss the best path forward based on the outcome of the hearing, including a prompt voluntary surrender in Fulton County, if appropriate.”

Willis dismissed that request out of hand, replying that she is not giving any extensions. That opens up for the possibility of his being arrested if he does not comply and the federal court does not step in.

Last week, Meadows' attorney, George Terwilliger, argued in a federal filing that the actions attributed to Meadows in the indictment were not inherently criminal. He said arranging meetings in the Oval Office, contacting state officials on behalf of the President, visiting state buildings, and facilitating phone calls for the President are all part of the Chief of Staff's responsibilities and should be expected.

U.S. District Judge Steve Jones set a hearing date of Aug. 28 for Meadows' motion to move his election interference case from Fulton County, Georgia, to federal court. In the meantime, Meadows still had to report to the notorious Fulton County jail for processing by Friday, Aug. 25.

  1. Fani Willis will be held accountable. She thinks she’s covered now, but in the future she will answer to the American people through their lawful representatives.

  2. This despicable woman is one of those who craves power like a drug and it affects her in the same way as a drug…the more she has, the more she craves. This whole action is a very dangerous misuse of her power and will have some far-reaching and long-lasting extremely negative consequences! God help us!

  3. FW has little chance of success if she thinks her power can last forever. For all of the fraudulently carried out unwarranted arrests in Fulton, Georgia, she will be reimbursed. She has neglected the DA’s office and the United States Constitution. She is utterly unjust, and she will face legal action and be placed under arrest for her gross abuse of power. Her power will only lead her to hell. For what objective? Because God alone has the power to punish those who are destroying America. A nation with rule of laws that God Himself created. As the saying goes, “What goes around, comes around.”
