Child Suffers Critical Injuries After Incident at Wildlife Park

HUNTINGDON, England — A three-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was thrown into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo in central England, prompting police to arrest a 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The incident occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a wildlife park near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, where emergency services were called following reports that a young child had entered an enclosure housing crocodiles.

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that officers launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect. He did not know the child.

According to the New York Post, the man has a learning disability and was deemed unfit for questioning by police. The report said he was at the zoo with a caretaker at the time of the incident.

The zoo owner’s wife reportedly jumped into the enclosure to save the terrified child.

Child Airlifted to Hospital

Emergency responders treated the boy at the scene before transporting him to a hospital for specialized care.

Police have not released details regarding the exact nature of the injuries.

The child remained under medical care as investigators continued gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Attempted Murder Investigation Underway

Cambridgeshire Police said the arrested man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.

Authorities are reviewing witness statements, surveillance footage, and evidence from the zoo as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The force emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages.

Zoo Cooperating With Authorities

Representatives of Johnsons of Old Hurst said they were assisting police and supporting the emergency response.

The zoo temporarily restricted access to parts of the facility while investigators examined the scene.

Officials have not indicated whether any crocodiles came into contact with the child during the incident.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as staff and emergency personnel rushed to assist the boy and secure the enclosure.
