A new collaboration between the pro-family ministry Communio and the Texas Baptist General Convention of Texas is hoping to equip thousands of churches across Texas to support couples and reinforce family stability. The initiative seeks to address declining marriage rates and rising family fragmentation, according to a recent press release from Communio.
“The effort comes as the most recent statewide data available on marriage and family trends highlights several areas of concern,” the release stated. It noted that 42.1% of children in Texas are born to unmarried parents, while only 54% of children are raised by their married, biological parents. Additionally, the state’s fertility rate dropped to an all-time low in 2024, reflecting delayed marriage and family formation.

However, Communio‘s founder and president, JP De Gance, believes the situation can and will change. He said the partnership has already seen major transformation with more people attending church in Texas and numerous marriages being saved, per a news release from the Texas Baptists.
JP De Gance, founder and president of Communio, expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential impact. “I am thrilled that this new partnership with the Texas Baptists will give thousands of pastors easier access to our ministry support services. This means many more people meeting Jesus and many more thriving Christian marriages,” he said.
Communio emphasizes that family fragmentation is linked to a variety of social challenges, including higher rates of poverty, lower educational outcomes for children, and increased loneliness and social isolation. Through coaching, relationship programs, and data-informed strategies, the ministry works with church leaders to strengthen marriages and promote family health.
Texas Baptists Executive Director Julio Guarneri highlighted the church’s role in supporting couples: “At a time when many couples and families are under growing strain, the local church is best positioned to respond not only by preaching the gospel, but by walking alongside people in their most important relationships. This partnership with Communio is timely.”
The initiative aligns with broader discussions about marriage and family as foundational social institutions. Neal Hardin of Alliance Defending Freedom previously described marriage and family as “God’s design and the basic building blocks of human society,” adding that honoring these institutions is “directly correlated to the ongoing survival and flourishing of civilization itself.”
With this statewide effort, Communio and Texas Baptists hope to reverse troubling trends in marriage and family life, providing pastors and church leaders with tools to support couples and help families thrive.
