Trump Intelligence Chief Tulsi Gabbard Resigns

Tulsi Gabbard resigned Friday as Director of National Intelligence, marking one of the most significant shakeups yet inside President Donald Trump’s national security apparatus amid escalating tensions surrounding the Iran war.

Gabbard’s resignation follows months of internal friction tied to intelligence assessments on Iran, disagreements over U.S. military involvement in the region, and growing questions about her standing within the administration.

The departure also comes just days after Amaryllis Fox Kennedy — one of Gabbard’s closest allies inside the intelligence community and daughter-in-law of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — resigned from multiple senior intelligence positions. Multiple reports linked those departures to disagreements surrounding the administration’s Iran policy.

Gabbard had increasingly come under pressure after public testimony earlier this year in which she appeared reluctant to fully endorse claims that Iran posed an “imminent nuclear threat” to the United States, creating visible tension with White House messaging during the conflict.

Speculation about her future had circulated for months. In April, reports indicated Trump privately discussed replacing Gabbard after frustrations surrounding intelligence briefings and internal disagreements over the Iran war.

Despite the political turmoil surrounding her departure, Gabbard disclosed in her resignation letter that her husband, Abraham, had recently been diagnosed with “an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” explaining that she was leaving in order to support him through treatment and recovery.

As Fox News reports:

Gabbard notified President Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office Friday. Her last day at ODNI is expected to be June 30.

Fox News Digital exclusively obtained her formal resignation letter, in which Gabbard says she is “deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence for the last year and a half.”

“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026,” she wrote. “My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer.”

Gabbard said her husband “faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months.”

During her tenure, Gabbard aggressively reshaped the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, pushing major staffing reductions, restructuring the President’s Daily Brief process, and firing intelligence officials she accused of undermining Trump administration priorities.

I think she did a good job and we were lucky to have her for a while. But family must come first. She needs to be with her husband and help him through his cancer.
I hope she’s not out of the picture forever.
