PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB): Or anything remotely resembling that. House panel quashes attempt to stop integration of U.S., Israel defense tech sectors. It advanced a measure to increase cooperation after one lawmaker’s attempt to halt the proposal to stop it fell flat.

The U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative, part of House’s version of fiscal 2027 defense policy bill, would codify and increase military technical cooperation between U.S. defense industry and Israel’s, as well as create a technical liaison position within Pentagon to support the effort.

The proposal “actually improves oversight and accountability for these (coordinated military tech) programs by designating a single official responsible,” said committee chairman Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) “Claims that this provision somehow cedes authority to a foreign government are ridiculous.”

The U.S.-Israel relationship is changing, said Michael Hanna, director of U.S. program at International Crisis Group.  Providing Israel with endless military aid won’t last for long. “The Israelis understand that and are trying to get ahead of that” by moving from an aid model to one of co-production and procurement, he said.

And this is a good thing for both the U.S. and Israel.
