Why the Red Wave Failed in 2022 but is More Likely in 2024

-

ANALYSIS – After the disappointing ‘red ripple' last week the Republican questioning and blame game quickly began.

I wrote that the GOP failed to win more seats because it did not forcefully address the issue by countering the left's hysteria over the Dobbs decision.

I also argued that former President Trump didn't help Republicans by continuing to obsess over the 2020 election and making the 2022 election all about loyalty to him.

And I still believe those were major factors.

However, conservative commentator provides an added perspective as to why (mathematically) 2022 could never have been a ‘red wave' midterm election.

And he also explains why a congressional ‘red wave' is far more likely in 2024.

His point is that the electoral map simply favored Democrats over Republicans this year as far as how many seats were up for grabs in .

And how many were Democrat vs. Republican.

As  reported:

“I noticed that many of the same people who were wrong about a red wave are now telling us what to think about a non-red wave. The experts, the consultants, the ruling class, the , the politicians. We need to think for ourselves, enough of the static,” the host said over the weekend. “I said before the election, and I said repeatedly here and on radio: Forget about the red wave. Forget about a red tsunami. Forget about Armageddon and vote.”

In the Senate, Republicans had to defend 20 of the 34 seats up for re-election. To win the majority, Republicans would have had to “tap into” the 14 Democrat incumbent seats, the host explained.

“That was a tall hill to climb. And this is one of the reasons I wasn't on this red-wave bandwagon so fast,” he said. “I needed to think about it. 2024. This is the key. The next election cycle, 33 seats are up. Now, listen to this. Two-thirds of them are Democrat seats. So the Democrats have to defend 23 Senate seats. The Republicans have to defend only ten.”

“So,” he continued, “the math in 2022 never really led to a red wave possibility and the math in 2024, it does lead to a red wave possibility. Does that mean there will be one? Of course not. But I'm just explaining the math, the simple math. We had about 60% of the seats up. They have almost 70% of the seats up in the next round. So what does that mean? Democrats needed to have some serious gains in the Senate last week to stave off a disaster in 2024. They failed miserably.”

So, while the congressional ‘red wave' never materialized in November, because it likely never could, the GOP and conservatives are now very well positioned to make big gains in 2024.

And that includes retaking the Senate. Fox News continued:

Looking ahead to 2024, Levin said Republicans have a much higher chance of pulling off a true “red wave” than they did in last week's midterms.

“In 2024, [Democrats are] in a horrendous situation when two-thirds of the Senate seats that are up are Democrat seats, and they're [now] celebrating that they only lost the House by a relatively few votes, but they lost the House. And the GOP can now block these radical kook programs that Biden's pushing. They can conduct investigations. They can do what they need to do, and they damn well better.

But this will only happen if the GOP picks the right candidate at the top of the ticket in 2024 and also makes its case in a far better way than it did just now. ALD

  1. I so hope he is correct. However, is the fix already in? Why did the Supreme Court strike down Dodd a few weeks before the midterms? That was a sure way that the Dem’s had a cause to push with women. Why did a judge strike down Biden’s unconstitutional College payoff to college students after the midterms? Why not strike it down before the midterms if the fix was not in? Is our Democracy really ours or is it controlled by others? Things to think about as we move on!

      • We are supposed to be a Republic governed by LAWS but people, especially the Democrats think we are a Democracy…governed by MOB majority. Presidents breaking laws like: Clinton favoring a communist country China free of tariffs, Obama violating Immigrtion law (Dreamers), now Biden with his Student loan forgiveness and open borders.

    • Your question is valid and eye opening. Sometimes I think, there is a power behind all of these that we don’t know. Trump is the only one that seems to tell us the truth in politics. may God help us all before we realize that we are being led to gas chambers, like the Jews?

  2. Well, I too was hesitant to climb on the ‘Red Wave’ bandwagon and for ONE simple reason: Joe the Schmoe went on record forever, boasting about his effective and efficient ‘fraud machine.’ I feared the machine is still in motion in battleground states. And now I STILL fear it was. One single Trumpian postulate has not been applied: by what %age did the number of votes received exceed the number of actual voters??? And then of course there is the matter of voting machines using hardware and or software manufactured and programmed in the backyard of Chairman Xi (Thought experiment: guess which party the Chinks prefer?). I’m just sayin’…

    • China will always be favored by Democrat Presidents like Bill Clinton who made them a favored country free of tariffs on all the goods they dumped in our markets, which made China a very wealthy country. No President was able to make them pay because they hold over $3,Trillon of our Treasury Bonds when they bought a bunch of them from Japan’s economic downturn. Pres. Trump is the only one who got China to pay that is why they hate him and spending millions to defeat him. Now, Biden is also beholding to China becdause of the millions his family got frtom them that is now exposed and wil be under investigation, now that the Republiocans have a majority in Congrss. It is a security issue & must be done.

  3. Levin, as usual, is right, but the red wave will fail in 2024 also if Republicans aren’t aggressively conservative in both talk and action. They must distance themselves from the remaining RINOs and characterize themselves clearly as the conservative and fiscally responsible party that will control inflation by cutting the bloated domestic spending. Republicans cannot win by being Democrat-light and playing the Democrat’s game.

    • They also need to rally behind Trump because a devided Republican party is a dream gift for a sure Democrat win. Why? Because of the millions of Trump’s followers that will be alliented & won’t vote if Trump is not the candidate. No one in the party has his name recognition here and abroad and the support of millions. Our foreign enemies also behaved themselves when he was the Pres. because of his diplomatic approach and strenght. Our enemies are emboldened under a Democrat Presidency, like Russia taking Crimea under Obama’s reign with no ramifications. Russia again with Ukraine under another Democrat President & they wont stop until we have a strong Presient like Trump. World peace is at stake.

  4. Very astute observation, Levin. I DO hope that Trump will not be the nominee coming out of the primaries as that would preclude DeSantis’s election to the presidency. I have serious doubts Trump could win in the general election in 2024 if he is able to take the nomination, which I believe is unlikely. I expect California governor Gavin Newsome, or someone equally as bad and slick will be the nominee for the Dems in 2024. It won’t be Biden or Harris, both of whom are radioactive, like Trump. Michelle Obama’s name has started popping up.

    • DeSantis should aim for the Senate first because he is not well known yet in the rural areas of America and name recognition plays an important role in any election. Democrts and biased media are using De Santis to DIVIDE
the Republican Party so that Democrat will again win. It behooves the Republican Party to rally behind Trump or find themselves defeated again in 2024. The Media and the Democrats are playing with your minds Republicans, be smart like Ted Cruz, Jim Jones, Matt Gates and the loyal supporters of Trump or be forever forgotten by Trump supporters. Trump supporters are very loyal to him because he does what he promised; lowered their taxes, secured the botder, created jobs, & apprenticeships for the forgotten and most of all save millions of lives with his fast action on the COVID VACCS, We can’t be INGRATES unlike politicians with no values. May the Lord bless all Americans with wisdom and gratitude. Amen.

  5. With a slim majority in the House and the Senate still in Democratic control there is very little that can be done except to block any further economic collapse by blocking any bills that the Democrats try to push. Then they should impeach Mayorkas and Merrick Garland. It may fail, but with investigative power and oversight the House majority can expose those departments’ illegal activities. Then they need to pass bill after bill to open the Keystone pipeline, build a border wall and enforce immigration law, outlaw CRT, etc, etc.. All will fail, but again make the Democrats expose their lies and force them to vote against common sense or force Biden to use and defend his veto.

The truth is that with the effects of the “Inflation Reduction Act” (just a “Green New Deal” slush fund) yet to come; inflation and gas prices will only get worse. Ditto, the Feds continuing raising of interest rates (the only government answer for inflation) will crush the housing market and all its supporting industries as mortgage rates will likely hit double digits. So inflation and gas prices can only increase without any major policy changes and America’s recession and American’s pain and bankruptcies continue and worsen. Not that I wish it on anyone, but this is what’s coming and perhaps then the pain will be so great that there will be “red wave” in 2024.
