Democrats Reach the Bottom of the Barrel by Sending This Former President to Stump for Vulnerable Candidates

-

are poised to lose big on Election Day and they know it.

In what could be Democrats' biggest red flag yet from this midterm election cycle, former President Bill Clinton descended on the U.S.-Mexico border on Monday, an apparent last-ditch effort to help two vulnerable House candidates.

Clinton will first visit Laredo to stump for nine-term Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX- 28th). Cuellar is in a tight race for the 28th Congressional District against Latina candidate Cassy Garcia. RealClearPolitics has ranked the race a “toss up” but Republicans have been shining in on the competitive district for months.

Cuellar previously worked as Clinton's campaign manager. Notably, his wife Hillary will not be attending the events.

Garcia has received endorsements from high-profile national Republicans throughout the race, including House GOP leader Kevin Mcarthy and former President . Casandra “Cassy” Garcia previously served as Senator Ted Cruz's Deputy State Director and was appointed by President Donald in July 2020 to serve as Commissioner for the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, according to her campaign website.

Garcia's campaign strongly rebuked the former President's last-minute visit in a statement on Monday.

“We're not surprised that Cartel Cueller deployed to South Texas less than 24 hours after inquiring as to Cassy's marital status on national television. But not even Slick Willy can hide the fact that Cartel Cueller has been in office since 1987 and four out on the nine counties in TX-28 still don't have doctors; the border is broken; and he voted with and Pelosi to make inflation worse for our families. That's why South Texans are rejecting Cartel Cueller and voting for Cassy Garcia, who will always put people ahead of political parties.”

Next on Clinton's schedule, he will travel southeast to Edinburg where he will campaign with Michelle Vallejo who is running against Hispanic Republican Monica De La Cruz in the 15th Congressional District. RealClearPolitics ranks the district as “leans Democrat” and the most recent RMG Research survey reported Cruz with a seven-point edge over the Democrat.

The district's current representative, Vicente Gonzalez, chose to abandon the district and run in a neighboring one that was more favorable to Democrats. Trump won the district (51.4%) over during the 2020 presidential election (48.6%).

Clinton's surprise campaign stops come on the heels of a series of visits from former President Barack Obama, whose popularity remains strong among Democrats.

Republicans are poised to pick up as many as 30 House seats during this year's midterms.
