President Joe Biden is lifting sanctions on Venezuela’s socialized oil and gas industry at a time when he is also banning much oil drilling in the United States.
Biden’s announcement lifts a U.S.-enforced freeze on financial transactions by Venezuelan energy and gold mining companies, which are entirely controlled by the nation’s socialist regime.
The decision, effective for six months, comes after Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro agreed to allow an election, though such elections have been rife with fraud, and it appears he can still ban many candidates. The deal is expected to boost the regime’s oil revenues by 25 percent, Bloomberg reports.
The scheme left many in Washington baffled as to why Biden is promoting Venezuelan oil and gas just days after blocking new oil drilling in the U.S.
U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR), slammed Biden’s decision to promote oil drilling by bloodthirsty socialists while outlawing oil drilling by working Americans.
“Joe Biden’s energy policies put America last. On day one, he killed the Keystone XL pipeline. In week one, he blocked new federal oil and natural gas leasing. By year two, he sold off 40 percent of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve – taking it to its lowest level in forty years. Meanwhile, he eased sanctions on Iran, which funds terrorism across the Middle East,” said Barrasso.
“Now with Israel under attack, Biden is desperate for anything to mask the consequences of his reckless policies. His latest gimmick is to ease sanctions on Nicolás Maduro’s brutal regime in Venezuela. America should never beg for oil from socialist dictators or terrorists,” Barrasso added.
“For the sake of our energy workers and our allies, Joe Biden must work with us to unleash American energy,” Barrasso pleaded.
