Chief Of Staff To Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs Resigns 5 Months Into Job

-

Gov. (D) has a staffing problem.

Her chief of staff and close friend, , resigned effective immediately last night.

Bones' departure is the fourth high-profile resignation in Hobbs' first five months in office.

Hobbs' previous communications director, deputy communications director and legislative affairs director have all quit.

The high turnover in Hobbs' office — now including her right hand — is generating widespread coverage.

As the Arizona Mirror reports:

Before following Hobbs to the governor's office, Bones was the assistant secretary of state for the four years that Hobbs was secretary of state. The two have worked together for more than 20 years, after meeting in 2001 when they both were social workers advocating for survivors of domestic abuse.

Hobbs praised Bones' service in a statement, adding that she had decided to leave to “pursue new opportunities.”

The governor did not specify what those were.

“Allie Bones exemplifies the true meaning of a public servant, and I am incredibly grateful for her leadership throughout the transition and this first legislative session of my Administration,” Hobbs said in the statement. “Her goal was to build a team that could work across the aisle to navigate divided government, and she accomplished that. With a successful bipartisan budget behind us, she's ready for her next endeavor, and I wish her nothing but the best.”

Some Democrats were unhappy with Bones' performance as chief of staff. Some, like Rep. Cesar Aguilar, celebrated her resignation. He said that Bones ruined Democratic morale.

Aguilar told the Arizona Mirror that he was disappointed in Hobbs' and Bones' handling of the annual budget, which he thought included too many concessions to Republicans and not enough wins for Democrats.

“The governor and Allie Bones somehow found a way to piss off every Democrat in the House, in the Senate, Secretary of State (Adrian) Fontes and Kris Mayes,” Aguilar told the Mirror. “You've got to be trying to do that.”

  1. So they all are starting to see the true Katie Hobbs. the one that doesn’t give a tinkers damn about this state or the people who live here. She only cares about wielding power for the left & the money she can make doing exactly that. Her days are numbered.

  2. Now who will read all the documents and and explain everything to Katie in a 5 year old’s vernacular so she understands? It’s always been ‘What Katie wants, Katie gets.’ so they better get a grunt in there fast.

  3. Now, if we could just get rid of Katie and many who think like her, we might be on to something.
