A Venezuelan national charged with the murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley has been found guilty on all 10 counts, including malice murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault with intent to rape.
Riley, a 21-year-old nursing student, was killed during a morning jog on the University of Georgia campus in February. Prosecutors detailed how she fought her attacker, 26-year-old Jose Ibarra, for 18 minutes before succumbing to her injuries.
Evidence Pointed to Brutal Attack
The trial, which began on Nov. 15, 2024, was a bench trial after Ibarra waived his right to a jury. Superior Court Judge H. Patrick Haggard presided over the case and ultimately ruled that Ibarra carried out the fatal assault. Evidence presented by prosecutors included Ibarra’s DNA found under Riley’s fingernails and his thumbprint discovered on her phone.
Defense Plea and Testimonies
Ibarra pleaded not guilty to all charges. Prosecutors also highlighted testimony from Ibarra’s former roommate, who revealed under oath that the defendant had traveled to Georgia on a taxpayer-funded humanitarian flight organized under a Biden administration program for migrants and asylum seekers. The ex-roommate stated that the flight was crucial for their arrival in Atlanta in September 2023—five months before Riley’s murder.
Case Conclusion
Judge Haggard agreed with prosecutors that the evidence overwhelmingly demonstrated Ibarra’s guilt in Riley’s death.
Family and friends wept in court as the verdict was announced.
Ibarra’s conviction brings a close to a case that has drawn widespread attention for its brutal details and the federal program that brought Ibarra to Georgia.

Anyone still living can file a Federal class action suit against the Biden Administration, which would include all those who were complicit to an unfettered open border policy. There is no doubt that our current government has blood on their hands and needs to be exposed as criminally negligent homicide. Accountability is going to be the talk of the Breakfast Club of the Trump Administration, and rightly so, and to set a clear example of what adhering to the “Rule of Law” is all about. This should include all judges and prosecutors who subscribed to the whims of the Biden Administration–take no prisoners!
