Supreme Court Temporarily Shields Trump Tax Returns

-

Chief Justice John Roberts has put a temporary hold on a lower court order requiring the release of former President 's tax returns to the Democratic-led .

The committee has argued that it's necessary to obtain said records to review how the audits presidential tax returns.

Trump's financial records were set to be turned over to the Ways and Means Committee tomorrow. Lawyers for the 45th president filed an emergency application requesting the delay with the yesterday.

As American Liberty News reported yesterday:

Since 2019, congressional Democrats have sought the former president's tax returns. On Thursday, the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit unanimously denied Trump's latest court bid to keep his 2015-20 tax returns and those of his businesses out of the hands of the House Ways and Means Committee.

CNBC has more:

The chief justice gave the Ways and Means Committee until Nov. 10 to respond to Trump's request for a longer delay of the order preventing them from getting his tax returns for the years 2015 through 2020.

A federal judge in December ordered the IRS to hand over Trump's records to the committee, which has said it wants them as part of a probe of how the agency audits presidential returns.

Trump had appealed that order to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit but lost that effort in August.

…

Roberts has authority over emergency applications issued from the D.C. circuit court.

The administrative stay is not a ruling on the merits of Trump's request. Rather, it puts the ruling by the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit against Trump on hold while the Supreme Court considers Trump's request.

So, what do you think? Will Democrats get Trump's tax returns, or is it more likely that Republicans regain control of next week and scrap the Ways and Means Committee's yearslong effort to obtain Trump's records before they can review them?

  1. Actually, I’m surprised Roberts did this. He wavers from side to side on his actions and opinions!

  2. I think it is pretty clear that the Democrats’ request for Trumps tax returns is a ruse. The IRS is fully capable of explaining to Congress how they audit presidential tax returns without divulging the contents of those returns, which by law they are supposed to keep private.

Second, if they really needed an actual return to complete this audit, why not used Biden’s return from last year, the most recent, or eight years of Obama’s? Why are they fixated on Trump’s?

Further Democrats in Congress have quite a track record for leaking material like this, especially when it comes to Trump. They also lie about what they have to the press. Anyone who thinks that isn’t how this is going to play out, hasn’t been paying attention.

  3. I haven’t seen them request Obama’s tax records. Appears only to be more harassment of Pres Trump.
