Boston’s Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu is under fire from local leaders after reaffirming her stance on sanctuary city laws, vowing that Boston will continue to protect and support illegal immigrants. In her State of the City address on Wednesday night, Wu doubled down on the city’s commitment to not cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, declaring, “No one tells Boston how to take care of our own, not kings, and not presidents who think they are kings.”
The mayor’s defiant stance was met with strong opposition from conservative leaders in the city, who argue that her policies put Boston residents at risk by shielding illegal immigrants from federal immigration enforcement. Wu’s comments, particularly her declaration that “you belong here” to undocumented immigrants, have sparked intense debate over the city’s sanctuary laws and their implications for public safety.
Massachusetts GOP spokesperson Logan Trupiano called for an end to what he described as “fearmongering” and accused Wu of mischaracterizing ICE and federal authorities. Trupiano emphasized that Boston’s sanctuary policies have allowed dangerous individuals to be released back into the community, undermining public trust and putting residents in harm’s way.
“There is simply no justifiable reason for her to stand in the way of this critical progress,” Trupiano said. “The city’s sanctuary policies have led to the release of dangerous individuals back into our communities.” He pointed to arrests of illegal immigrant child sex predators, drug dealers, and gun runners as clear consequences of Wu’s sanctuary policies.
Critics argue that by shielding illegal immigrants from ICE, Boston is effectively protecting criminals and allowing them to evade justice. Former immigration judge and policy expert Andrew Arthur, from the Center for Immigration Studies, echoed these concerns, stating that sanctuary policies put immigrant communities at risk as well. He explained that these policies discourage immigrants from coming forward to report crimes or cooperate with law enforcement, out of fear that those they report will punish them after being released.
“Sanctuary policies actually harm people in immigrant communities that are sanctuaries because they know that the cops aren’t going to turn those people over to ICE, they’re going to turn them back out onto the streets,” Arthur said. “They don’t want to come forward [to report crimes], because they’re afraid that they’re going to be retaliated against.”
Arthur warned that sanctuary city policies unintentionally create an environment where criminals are protected while law-abiding residents, including immigrants, are left vulnerable. He argued that these policies end up creating a “sanctuary for criminals” rather than a safe haven for innocent immigrants.
The debate over sanctuary cities is not unique to Boston; similar discussions have taken place across the country, with cities like New York, Chicago, and San Francisco adopting policies that limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Proponents of sanctuary laws argue that they foster trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement. However, opponents contend that these policies prioritize the rights of illegal immigrants over the safety and well-being of law-abiding citizens.
For now, Mayor Wu is standing firm in her belief that “immigrants belong” in Boston regardless of legal status but local leaders and residents who oppose sanctuary policies are calling for a reevaluation of the city’s approach to immigration enforcement and public safety.

Pull all federal funds from the sanctuary anything. Illegal aliens need to be shipped out of the US. Come here legally or do not come at all. Also no welfare, no funding paid by citizens coffers to support these criminals. We do have immigration laws and these fake officials are taking illegal actions. Arrest them, trial them, punish them!
OVERNIGHT SHUTDOWN!
All sanctuary venues could be shut down overnight by simply making those responsible for harboring criminals complicit in any crime committed by anyone under their protection.
For even greater potency, use the Bible’s deterrent-potent civil judgments as the means whereby both criminals and those harboring them are punished – for both capital and non-capital crimes alike:
“{W]hen the earth experiences your judgments, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.” (Isaiah 26:9)
There would be no prison terms for anyone. Tax-paid-for prisons (by innocent tax payers) are superfluous under the Bible’s Criminal Justice System. Convicted capital criminals are put to death immediately following conviction, per Ecclesiastes 8:11, etc.
Non-capital criminals are required to pay two to five times restitution (depending upon the nature of their crime) to their *victims,* per Exodus 22:1-4, etc. If a thief is unable to pay the required restitution, he’s to be sold into indentured servitude until his debt is paid.
If he refuses to pay restitution, his contempt of court becomes a capital crime per Deuteronomy 17:9-13, for which he’s to be put to death expeditiously. Unless a thief has a death wish, he’ll pay restitution.
Perfect, just as King David depicted it in Psalm 19:7-11.
Under such as system, crime would be all but unheard of, and there would no need for tax-paid-for prisons, from which criminals are typically put back on the streets to continue their crime sprees.
