Is Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) serious?
The former House Speaker made a laughable statement while attempting to dismiss concern over President Joe Biden‘s age as he heads out on the campaign trail.
During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Pelosi, who is 83 years old, joked that President Biden is “a kid to me.”
President Biden would be 86 years old at the end of a potential second term and is already the oldest president in the history of the United States.
“I think the president should embrace his age, his experience, the knowledge he brings to the job,” Pelosi said. “Actually, the leader on the other side is not much younger. I don’t like to use his name, but you know who I mean. He’s not that much younger,” she continued, referring to former President Donald Trump.
“So I don’t think – age is a relative thing. It is – and I think this president, our country is very well served by his leadership, again, his experience, his knowledge, and it counts for a lot,” Pelosi claimed.
Pelosi concluded the interview by saying making age an issue in the campaign is just an “excuse.”
However, numerous polls have reported that a majority of Americans are concerned with Biden’s mental competency and age.
A Washington Post-ABC News poll in May found that a majority of voters, 68%, believe Biden is “too old” for another term, while 44% said the same for Trump.
Even high-profile Democrats have voiced concerns over Biden’s competency. In May, Hillary Clinton commented on the President’s age during the Financial Times Weekend Festival when questioned about his stumbling at the G7 Summit.
“Every time that happens, your heart is in your mouth because these things could be consequential. Is that a concern?” Financial Times editor Edward Luce asked.
Clinton responded, “It’s a concern for anyone. We’ve had presidents who had fallen before who were a lot younger, and people didn’t go into heart palpitations.”
“But his age is an issue, and people have every right to consider it,” Clinton added.
