The mayor of one of the country's largest cities announced in The Wall Street Journal on Friday that he has switched to the Republican Party.
Dallas, Texas Mayor Eric Johnson, previously a Democrat, explained why America's largest cities need Republicans.
Johnson served nine years in the Texas Legislature before winning the 2019 Dallas mayoral election as a Democrat.
The Texas Tribune reports:
“Today I am changing my party affiliation,” Johnson wrote in an op-ed published Friday in The Wall Street Journal. “Next spring, I will be voting in the Republican primary. When my career in elected office ends in 2027 on the inauguration of my successor as mayor, I will leave office as a Republican.”
Texas Republicans have responded warmly to Johnson's new party affiliation:
“Texas is getting more Red every day,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a tweet, sharing the announcement. “He's pro law enforcement & won't tolerate leftist agendas.”

I’m always leery of politicians jumping ship. Especially if it’s a Democrat switching to the Republican side.
Bravo Victory
Let’s vet him to make sure that he is NO RINO!
