Ella Emhoff, stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, shared emotional reflections while casting her vote in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary, expressing a mix of “trauma,” and hope.
In a video posted to social media, Emhoff, known primarily for her political ties, described the emotional weight of returning to the same polling station where she had previously voted for her stepmother during the 2024 presidential race. That election, which ultimately ended in a loss to Donald Trump, left an impression Emhoff described as “traumatic.”

“You know, I’m feeling a little trauma walking to the same polling station that I did to vote for Kamala,” Emhoff said. “And you know, I’m just feeling a lot of hope right now.”
Following her vote, she returned to the platform with a spirited update: “We did it,” she said, adding that she was feeling “a huge mix of emotions” and praised the grassroots momentum she witnessed. “It’s been so spectacular seeing New York come together in this way and rally behind Zohran.”
Emhoff was referring to New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani (D), the democratic socialist candidate who appears to have clinched the Democratic nomination for mayor, defeating establishment figures including former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Mamdani, who represents Queens in the state legislature, celebrated the primary victory as a turning point. “We made history,” he declared to a jubilant crowd of supporters. His platform, rooted in progressive and democratic socialist ideals, resonated with a growing base of left-leaning New Yorkers.
Despite Mamdani’s apparent momentum, the race is not officially over. Under New York City’s ranked-choice voting system, if no candidate earns more than 50% of first-choice votes, additional rounds of counting will take place. Mamdani leads with 43.5% of the vote (432,305 votes), ahead of Cuomo at 36.4% (361,840 votes), and Lander at 11.3% (112,349 votes). The ranked-choice system means Lander’s and other lower-tier candidates’ supporters could still influence the final outcome depending on how their subsequent preferences are redistributed.
Among his more controversial proposals is the creation of a network of city-run grocery stores. According to his campaign website, the plan would reduce food costs by eliminating profit motives and leveraging municipal resources. These stores would operate without paying rent or property taxes and would focus on affordability rather than profit, Mamdani says.
Mamdani’s victory drew national attention, including from Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who has long supported democratic socialist candidates. “You took on the political, economic, and media Establishment—and you beat them,” Sanders said in a statement. “Now it’s on to victory in the general election.”
President Trump weighed in on Truth Social, writing “It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous.”
“He looks TERRIBLE, his voice is grating, he’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him,” he added. “Yes, this is a big moment in the History of our Country!”
As New York prepares for the general election, all eyes will be on whether Mamdani can maintain his momentum.

So voting for one unmitigated Communist hypocrite wasn’t enough for her. She had to go vote for another unmitigated Communist hypocrite who’s at least as bad as her stepmother the Cacklemaniac is. Guess the old saying about you can’t fix stupid applies to her.
