Prominent Georgia Democrat Turns on Stacey Abrams

-

Stacey Abrams was left blindsided when a high-profile Georgia Democrat opted to endorse Republican Brian Kemp instead of her.

Kwanza Hall, who previously ran for lieutenant governor of Georgia, made the surprising endorsement on Friday, four days before Election Day. Hall also endorsed Republican lieutenant governor candidate Burt Jones citing Kemp's ability to make “tough decisions” in “unprecedented circumstances,” and Jones' plans to reduce and improve the state's system.

“While we don't agree on every issue, it's abundantly clear that is a man of character, a strong leader, and someone who Georgians can trust to put them and their interests first,” Hall said in a statement.

The Democrat's endorsement of Kemp is a brutal rebuke of Abrams so close to the midterms. Hall briefly served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia's 5th Congressional District following the death of former Rep. John Lewis (D), who represented the seat.

“I greatly appreciate Congressman Hall's support in this campaign,” Kemp said in a statement. “Kwanza has ably served our capital city and state for many years, and I look forward to working with him and other hardworking Georgians to put political differences aside and keep our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family for the next four years.”

Gov. Kemp and Abrams are stuck in a contentious election re-match after Abrams lost the 2018 gubernatorial race and famously refused to concede. (RELATED: Stacey Abrams Prepares to Challenge Another Election)

RealClearPolitics ranks the race as “leans GOP” but Abrams has sought to make the race competitive. The most recent Marist poll reports Kemp with an eight-point lead over his Democrat challenger.

  1. Thank God for someone to simply TELL THINGS LIKE THEY ARE — Stacy Abrams is – based on her pretentious claim as Georgia Governor and refusing to concede is a self entitled, narcissistic opportunist relying — wishful thinking – on her being black to swoop her into office — She is untrustworthy and filled with ridiculous, fallacious and tired rhetoric — AMerica is through with that diet of baloney!!!!
