Trump Sees Influence Diminish in Wake of Legal Issues

-

Former President Trump is seeing his popularity and influence decrease as he stares down numerous legal entanglements. New give a look into Trump's waning influence, a problematic sign for the Republican reportedly planning to launch a third presidential campaign.

In the latest Yahoo News-YouGov poll, 48% of registered voters said they'd cast their ballot for Biden “if the 2024 election were held today,” while 42% said they'd vote for Trump. The poll reveals a distinct increase in Biden's popularity among voters from a similar poll in August.

The Hill reports:

Last month, 43 percent of Democrats said Biden should not seek reelection, while 35 percent said he should. In the latest poll, 30 percent of Democrats said he shouldn't and 44 percent said he should.

Democrats are also polling ahead of Republicans by 5 points on a generic congressional ballot, with 45 percent of registered voters saying they'd vote for the hypothetical Democratic candidate and 40 percent saying they'd back the Republican.

At the same time, just 24 percent of registered voters overall said Biden should seek reelection. Fifty-nine percent said he shouldn't, and the rest were unsure. By contrast, 29 percent said Trump should run in 2024, while 60 percent said he shouldn't.

Biden has steadily seen his approval numbers rebound from historic lows due to inflation, rising , and the border crisis. Now, more Democrats are siding with Biden and pushing him to run for another term, a distinct turnaround from earlier this year. As Biden experiences a swell in support, his predecessor has been hit by an onslaught of legal troubles.

The 's August raid of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence has seemed to monopolize America's attention. While Trump has hoped to captivate Americans' attention again, this can hardly be what he had in mind.

Trump, who reportedly planned to make his 2024 campaign announcement over Labor Day weekend, was advised to postpone the news due to the ongoing scandal. (RELATED: New Report Indicates Trump Will Postpone 2024 Campaign Announcement)

However, a new poll signals the damage to Trump's reputation may be irreparable. The latest NPR-PBS NewsHour-Marist survey reveals nearly half of Americans — 47% — think the former president broke the law in regard to the documents seized from his Florida residence and should be charged.

In a separate report from The Hill:

Forty-four percent of respondents said after FBI agents seized boxes of government documents and materials at Mar-a-Lago that Trump did something illegal. Another 17 percent said Trump's actions were unethical but not illegal, and 29 percent said the former president did nothing wrong.

The survey also reveals that most Americans, 61 percent, said they do not want Trump to run again for office in 2024. This includes 90 percent of Democrats, 26 percent of Republicans and 67 percent of independents.

A slightly higher percentage of respondents — 65 percent — said Trump should not run for office again if he is convicted of a crime connected to the search of Mar-a-Lago.

The Department of Justice has argued the FBI recovered classified documents in its raid. The DOJ has accused Trump of violating the Presidential Records Act by keeping presidential records that former executives have traditionally turned over to the National Archives. Trump has maintained his innocence.

On Monday, Florida Judge Aileen Cannon sided with Trump's legal team and granted his request a special master be appointed to independently review the materials. The judge's move forced the DOJ to halt its investigation.

Does Trump still stand a chance of leading a successful presidential campaign? Has the left managed to finally take him down? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

    • I agree that polls by Yahoo and and PBS Marxist are highly suspect, but may reflect some small amount of truth. I do see Trump’s popularity with regular Republicans and Independents on the wane, especially among younger voters. I’ll cast my vote for the winner of the 2024 primaries, whoever that might be.

      • Is that Republican or Democratic primaries???? I hope it is Republican Primaries. My vote goes for Republican candidate.

  1. If one’s mind is molded by the lies of the corrupt mainstream media, of course everything they say will be negative against Pres. Trump. With this runaway inflation that Biden’s supporters love, I don’t think any normal voter wil vote for Biden again not unless they are rich or supplied with money by our enemies.

  2. Biden is a hopeless, feeble old man, a died-in-the-wool politician, with an average mind and more ambition than is good for him or the nation. He’ll say whatever he feells will get him elected by his base. He radiates weakness to our enemies. Trump is smarter, but lacks tact and needs to be more diplomatic. Neither should be nominted by their respective conventions in 2024. Look for alternatives, America! Is this all we got to run a nation of over 300,000,000 people??? How pathetic is that?

  3. The sad thing about all of this is that Trump is his own worse enemy. He needs to learn when to keep his mouth shut because his stupid rants are what’s causing people to turn him off, and turn against the republicans running for office. He’s going to be the cause of the democrats winning this November’s election, then the whole country will suffer.

    • I have to agree that Trump’s mouth lost him the last election, along with a lot of Dem cheating. Had he kept his mouth shut the results would have been so overwhelming for Trump’s re-election would have made the cheating so obvious no one could have denied it. I advised Trump many times to shut his mouth and appoint a pit-bull to respond to the media lies and for Trump to work to appear presidential. Unfortunately Trump failed to heed my advice. The pit-bull would have taken all the heat for mean tweets, while Trump could have remained above the fray and basked in the warmth of his successes.

  4. They want to think Trump’s popularity is down, but the public is aware of the underhanded Press and liberal tricks of smearing and leaking lies going on continuously.
No one really believes the news anymore.
Just like in China many just don’t tune in.

  5. With the latest bogus investigation and participation again by the FBI, Trump’s reputation has again been trashed by the same people behind Russian collusion. Trump may not recover against such enemies including the MSM and now Fox. I would prefer Ron DeSantis or Ted Cruz seek the nomination and move on from the Trump movement. The important thing is to find someone electable who espouses the same values as Trump, but without all the baggage, unearned or not. I don’t know if Trump’s Narcissism will allow him to give up reelection and put his support behind DeSantis or not. I have my doubts.

  6. Be very wary of polls telling you what voters want, especially those from left-wing organizations (which includes NPR and PBS). They are known to overpolll Democrats and underpoll Republicans which skews the results.

The Democrat strategy is to bombard you with “Trump cannot win” and “Trump is guilty” messages until you believe them. The leaks from the DOJ are part of that effort. When you hear things like “Trump had nuclear secrets! Oh my!!” just remember all the Russiagate claims that turned out to be utterly fictitious.

My preferred candidate for 2024 is someone other than Trump, but we deserve fair elections. Unfortunately, the Democrats are already engaging in conspiracies to keep Trump out of office.

  7. I don’t believe NPR poll. These polls are typically taken with more Democrats in their sampling so the results are skewed in their favor. Besides, 2024 is still a long way to make any silly judgement at this time.
