On April 28, an explosion was recorded near a residential building in the Khabarovsk Krai, aimed at eliminating Major General Azatbek Omurbekov, commander of the 64th Motorized Rifle Brigade. The incident resulted in the death of a high-ranking officer from the general’s inner circle.
This was reported by the international intelligence community InformNapalm, which analyzed the incident based on open-source data, OSINT observations, and information leaks.
The explosive device detonated near building No. 55 in the military town where Omurbekov resides. Verified coordinates confirm that the epicenter of the explosion was directly near the entrance to the building where the war criminal lives.
As a result of the assassination attempt, Lieutenant Colonel Sergey Kuzmenko, who served as the brigade’s chief of staff, was killed. Russian sources initially claimed that the officer was in a neighboring entrance at the time of the detonation, attempting to conceal the circumstances of the incident.
Analysts determined that Kuzmenko actually lived in the neighboring building, not in another entrance of the same building.
Documentary sources confirm a close connection between the families of Omurbekov and Kuzmenko, who were involved in the crimes in Bucha. In particular, the phone number of the slain lieutenant colonel’s wife is recorded in databases with the notes “wife of the Chief of Staff” and “Maxon’s mom.”
Additional OSINT observations point to a long-standing friendship between the children of the military officers. The lieutenant colonel’s son, Maxim, and the major general’s eldest son, Arthur, often spend time together, confirming the friendship between the families.
The explosion likely occurred when Omurbekov and Kuzmenko were passing by the site where the explosives were planted. The fact they were going together to the general’s residence explains why one officer was killed during the assassination attempt on the other.
Sergei Kuzmenko’s biography includes evidence of his direct participation in the full-scale invasion of the Kyiv region. Postal service records show that he sent packages from Mozyr, Belarus, in the spring of 2022.
His participation in hostilities against Ukraine and his high rank in the military hierarchy made the lieutenant colonel a legitimate target. His activities are linked to looting in the occupied territories, which he carried out together with Omurbekov’s units.
According to InformNapalm, Russian intelligence agencies are currently doing their utmost to conceal the major general’s actual health condition. Public spaces in the Khabarovsk region are being purged of any details regarding possible injuries sustained by the commander of the “Bucha butchers.”
The success of the assassination attempt will be indicated by Omurbekov’s presence or absence at the May 9 events. Previously, he traditionally led the parade columns in Khabarovsk.
