McCarthy Loses It After House Republicans Torpedo Spending Bill Vote

Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) was left fuming over his own party this afternoon…

On Thursday, McCarthy lost a procedural vote to begin debate on a defense funding bill when a coalition of shot down the measure.

The Congressman had no issue airing his frustrations after the surprising betrayal to reporters outside the Capitol, calling the situation “frustrating in the sense that I don't understand why anybody votes against bringing the idea and having the debate.”

“And then you got all the amendments if you don't like the bill. This is a whole new concept of individuals that just want to burn the whole place down. It doesn't work,” he continued.

On CNN, Manu Raju explained the source of McCarthy's frustration in layman's terms:

So viewers may have a hard time sorting out all the budget and spending issues they have to deal with here on the Hill. The issue that they had collapsed right now was a yearlong bill to fund the Pentagon. Typically, Republicans all vote in lockstep for that bill. Typically, they also vote for the rule. That is the first procedural vote that has to happen. Typically, the majority party votes for it. This time in what has been now been a common practice among these hardliners, they are voting against moving forward on the rule, the process, as leverage to try to extract concessions, leaving McCarthy in a bit of a jam. Quite a jam.

Punchbowl News' Jake Sherman reported on the frustration in the GOP caucus after the vote early Thursday afternoon, noting that after it failed, he received multiple texts from Republican leadership blaming the rebels for being responsible for “f*cking chaos” and “a total sh*t show.”

Tensions between the House Speaker and more conservative House members have been rising in recent days. Earlier this week, McCarthy shot back at threats from Rep. (Fla.) over potentially removing him from office. (RELATED: McCarthy Tells GOP Opponents To ‘File The F—ing Motion' To Remove Him)

“If you think you scare me because you want to file a motion to vacate, move the f*cking motion,” McCarthy said.

Five Republicans had voted against a rule vote to advance to the Pentagon bill. Two of them, Reps.  (Ga.) and Eli Crane (Ariz.), voted “no” on Thursday after voting in favor of advancing the legislation Tuesday. They were joined by Reps. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.), Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) and Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), who also opposed the procedural vote Tuesday.

  1. If the truth be known, poor Mr. McCarthy’s main problem lies in the Senate with one Mitch McConnell. You see Mitch is a Rhino and has already said no to a Biden impeachment and yes, we must pass a spending bill. This will cost our House of Representatives any leverage for the next year and a half.

    • Mitch us a pawn of the Communist Red Chinese. His wife us one herself. They both own millions of dollars in Commmunist Chinese companies which to most sane people would be a conflict of interest being a government employee. Mitch us no more than a female dog

  2. Quote: “This is a whole new concept of individuals that just want to burn the whole place down.”

Earth to McCarthy – the whole place is already burning down and you still don’t think there’s a fire!

  3. Perhaps the House Republicans are beginning to realize the McCarthy is nothing but talk – talk – talk. All we ever hear from him is what must be done, what should be done, what had better be dome, Etc. If he’d just start leading instead of talking he might get a bit more support.

  4. IF they don’t throw out ALL the RINOS , Republicans will NEVER get anything done. That’s why WE THE PEOPLE voted in Donald TRUMP ,but they were so busy whining and bickering that they didn’t get their “Good Ole’ Boy “in that they lost the one BIG chance to straighten this country out and save it.

  5. When did all the stupid language become so common? It simply exposes the lack of quality people. They do it to themselves.

  6. McCarthy is the right guy, at the right time…
IF you’re a Democrat! He’s a do-nothing appeaser! We need a Speaker with fangs, and an understanding of this time of peril.

  7. The RNCC ceaselessly calls my on the phone for donations. I can’t imagine how they expect to receive donations from Republicans when the Majority is led by McCarthy. He hasn’t yet noticed what’s going on in America.

  8. The republicans are acting like their own worse enemy. As disjointed as they are acting they better be prepared for another democrat sweep in next years election. If the libs win in 2024 everyone better prepare themselves for the libs to try and get rid of our constitutional republic and install their version of a socialist government, with them in total control of course.
