Attorney General Merrick Garland contemplated having FBI agents monitor the search for classified documents by President Biden’s aides.
Ultimately, he decided against it. According to officials close to Garland, he didn’t want to be seen as compromising the special counsel’s probe. Garland also weighed the White House’s cooperation with Justice Department investigators.
The Wall Street Journal explains:
After Mr. Biden’s lawyers discovered documents marked as classified dating from his term as vice president at an office he used at a Washington-based think tank on Nov. 2, the Justice Department opened an inquiry into why and how they got there. Mr. Biden’s legal team prepared to search his other properties for any similar documents, and discussed with the Justice Department the prospect of having FBI agents present while Mr. Biden’s lawyers conducted the additional searches.
Instead, the two sides agreed that Mr. Biden’s personal attorneys would inspect the homes, notify the Justice Department as soon as they identified any other potentially classified records, and arrange for law-enforcement authorities to take them.
Those deliberations, which haven’t previously been reported, shed new light on how the Biden team’s efforts to cooperate with investigators have thus far helped it avoid more aggressive actions by law enforcement.
In August, armed FBI agents executed a search warrant authorized by Garland as part of their investigation into former President Trump’s alleged mishandling of a larger trove of classified documents. The raid came after more than one year of negotiations.
And, in fairness, after Trump’s lawyers claimed he had returned all of the documents.
Still, many are curious as to how having federal agents present to oversee the search at Biden’s properties would “compromise” the special counsel’s investigation.
Chief among them is Hot Air‘s David Strom, who writes:
Uh, what? How, exactly? Normally you would think the opposite, right? Best to have a law enforcement guy there for chain of custody. If a crime is being investigated, you don’t usually ask the guy being investigated (or his lawyers) to pull a “scouts’ honor” maneuver.
It also begs the question did Biden get special treatment because he’s Garland’s boss? Storm proceeds to chronicle (facetiously) the recent history of high-profile Democrats and government secrets:
Now of course Democrats in this orbit do have a long track record of taking good care of classified documents. Hillary Clinton, for instance, had Blinken’s job during the Obama Administration and was famously careful with classified records, and famously cooperative with investigators. So with a track record like this from Obama Administration alums it is easy to see why the FBI would have no interest in ensuring that everything was on the up and up, and that nobody was vetting the documents to ensure that nothing untoward happened to anything embarrassing.

Why wasn’t the FBI rushing in armed and with the lights flashing as they did with Trump? Why were Biden’s attorneys selected and is there proof the classified files were not tampered with? Why would anyone even elect a President who lied and plagiarized his entire life?
The Dems are complaining and placing accusations because this information came out to the public. They have ruined our country with their woke agenda, didn’t allow the two Republicans who were originally selected to serve on the January 6 committee, and in watching that day at the Capitol the only person I saw die was Ashley Babbitt. Granted, I didn’t see it in entirety but I did not see all that this committee stated.
I am waiting to see what was withheld. The security agent who shot her did so as she was being pushed through a window of the door. She didn’t appear to be armed but he shot her at fairly close range.
What happened to our representatives being truthful. Why do the Democrats get away with crimes. No matter the party we American citizens deserve the truth .
While we can barely make ends meet the Bidens’ don’t have to be concerned about they will have for dinner, use up the gas in the motorcades, fly in private planes and attempt to stay warm because our electric bill is so high and paying double for groceries and able to feed our pets. All of this started on Biden’s first day in office with all of his executive orders. His dream is electric vehicles but there was no forethought in his decisions which has taken its toll on us citizens.
Add to this….killing babies if they survive abortion, increased crime, tearing down our monuments, not teaching American history, civics and economics in schools and equity over equality. World domination is what they desire and if we don’t step up it will happen. Total control.

This is just a question, DID I NOT READ some time back where garland was NOT picked for a high office he wanted??????? Hence the files and BS he wants to get back at Trump? S/C? GET HIM OUT!
Why isn’t Garland being impeached for failure to protect classified papers a Vice President had laying around. And why are we not looking to impeach Biden???

It’s just absurd how blatantly obvious the democrats are about their special rules (none) and considerations for their own. Biden’s houses should be raided at 2 AM, unannounced, by FBI agents armed with automatic weapons to recover the documents that he stole that belong to the American people. He should be charged with theft of secret confidential documents that he never had any right to remove from federal offices. He should spend some time in jail getting it warmed up for his criminal son. It is disgusting how their crimes are being bantered about our faces while they sit in their bars drinking with their Chinese and Russian friends and laughing at us Americans.

The rules are for thee but not for me. Why would the attorneys for Biden do the document search (and possibly do a questionable/inaccurate job) when they work for a proven serial liar and suspected criminal grifter?
I’m beginning to suspect that the whole reason this story came out, is to distract from some other nefarious crimes Biden’s perpetrated. Just haven’t figured out what yet.
Notice, that there’s been very little noise about the fact McSniffy never should have had Classified Material in his possession as VP to begin with. He was never authorized to “take it home,” and he had no authority to declassify any material.
Trump was cooperating. The claims that he wasn’t are a lie. An Archivist (read Unelected Bureaucrat), started the whole shebang going in order to curry favor with the WH, as they were looking for a way to prevent Trump from running again.
Now, there’s claims that Biden’s documents were planted. Maybe so, maybe not, but that same claim can be made about Trump’s documents. The FBI (not exactly known for their truthfulness) had 9 hours of unsupervised activity and had both motive and opportunity to plant all kinds of material.
