A public interest law firm is suing the Obama presidential library to force the release of documents proving Deep State figures tried to frame former President Donald Trump on false claims of “Russian collusion.”
Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit demanding the release of Obama White House records about now-debunked claims that Trump 2016 campaign associates worked with Russian government agents to influence the results of the presidential election and defeat Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.
By law, those records, which are in the possession of the National Archives, could not be made public until five years after Obama left office.
“The records we are seeking go to the heart of the Obama administration’s efforts to undermine the incoming president, Donald J. Trump, and tie up his new administration in a phony scandal,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “And the Obama Library is part of the same National Archives system that is subjecting President Trump to unprecedented harassment about Trump White House record keeping practices.”
Those disproven “stolen election” claims were central to a sustained effort by the mainstream media and Democrat officials to remove Trump from office and were originated by Obama administration officials.
Judicial Watch was instrumental in debunking the claims, publicizing a January 2017 email from Obama’s national security advisor Susan Rice which detailed an Oval Office meeting between Obama, then-Vice President Joe Biden and top FBI, NSA and Justice Department figures, in which “Russian collusion” wiretaps of top Trump associates were discussed.
“President Obama began the conversation by stressing his continued commitment to ensuring that every aspect of this issue is handled by the Intelligence and law enforcement communities ‘by the book’. The President stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from a law enforcement perspective. He reiterated that our law enforcement team needs to proceed as it normally would by the book,” Rice would write in an odd email documenting the meeting.
Then-FBI Director James Comney also confessed to attending the meeting and planning to “confront” Trump with the now-debunked “dossier” documenting the falsified claims, writing:
Obama did not appear to have any reaction to any of this—at least none he would share with us. In a level voice, he asked, “What’s the plan for that briefing?” With just the briefest of sidelong glances at me, Clapper took a breath, then said, “We have decided that Director Comey will meet alone with the president-elect to brief him on this material following the completion of the full ICA briefing.” The president did not say a word. Instead he turned his head to his left and looked directly at me. He raised and lowered both of his eyebrows with emphasis, and then looked away. I suppose you can read whatever you want into a wordless expression, but to my mind his Groucho Marx eyebrow raise was both subtle humor and an expression of concern. It was almost as if he were saying, “Good luck with that.” I began to feel a lump in my stomach….

Did Susan Rice always send an email after a meeting saying that Obama wanted everything done by the book? it’s definitely intended as a CYA memo. And if I remember correctly, the email was sent just hours before Trump’s inauguration.
Someone was very worried that their illegal and unethical behavior would come to light. If not for a complicit media, it would have. We think of Watergate as THE scandal in DC, but I am convinced that if we had had a Woodward and Bernstein duo to dig into the story as they did with Watergate, this would have topped Watergate as the most serious political crime in our history. Unfortunately, reporters didn’t dig into the story. They merely dug a hole and buried it.
Odd that you have to even state doing it by the book if you are always following the rule of law there would be no need to identify this time you’re doing it by the book.
