Steve Bannon Sentenced for Contempt of Congress

-

Former Trump strategist Steve Bannon received his sentence Friday morning following his conviction on two counts of criminal after he defied a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol raid.

Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump appointee, sentenced Bannon to four months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of $6,500.

The judge said that Bannon “has expressed no remorse for his actions” and hasn't demonstrated that he has any intention of complying with the subpoena from the Jan. 6 Committee.

Federal prosecutor J.P. Cooney argued that Bannon is not above the law and should be sentenced and treated like any other citizen, according to ABC News.

“It must be made clear to the public and the grand jury … that no one is above the law,” Cooney said. “He hid behind a fabricated claim of executive privilege, to thumb his nose at Congress.”

“He had an interest in making a public spectacle of the committee's hearings,” Cooney told the judge, saying that Bannon “has tried to make it about nothing but and retribution.”

During Friday's proceedings, Bannon's attorney David Schoen hit back against the prosecutor's claim Bannon did not have a legitimate claim of executive privilege when he rejected the committee's subpoena.

In particular, Schoen went after Trump lawyer Justin Clark, who told DOJ investigators in July that at no point did former President ever invoke executive privilege over Bannon's testimony.

“You wouldn't believe a thing he says,” Schoen said of Clark, who also contradicted other claims made by Bannon's defense team in their case.

Last week, the Justice Department announced it was pushing for a more severe sentence for Bannon's contempt of Congress charge, hoping for at least six months imprisonment. (RELATED: Feds Recommend Jail Time for Bannon)

Bannon's attorney David Schoen argued that there should not be a 30-day mandatory minimum of jail time for the offense.

Nichols, however, rejected that argument, saying the statute is clear on the point that there is a mandatory minimum of 30 days and a mandatory maximum of 12 months.

In comments to reporters after the ruling Bannon appeared to hint at an appeal in the near future and said, “this thing about I'm above the law is an absolute and total lie.”

It wasn't long before individuals went to Twitter to air their reactions.

Separately, Bannon is also facing a trial in New York for his alleged role in defrauding donors to his “We Build the Wall” group. (RELATED: Litany of Criminal Charges Unveiled Against Steve Bannon)

  1. Most of the country has contempt for the current congress and judicial system because it’s nothing but an organized crime organization run by the Demonrats and rollover RINOs.

    • Not to mention the utter and complete contempt for dunce Biden and all his crooked and perverse administration!

  2. DON’T MESS WITH THE USA’S HIGH PLACE!

Washington D.C.’s Capitol is the biblically egregious Constitutional Republic’s High Place (and her Congressmen and women her high priests and priestesses) that must not be defiled!

The uproar from her priests and priestesses is essentially no different than the uproar from the idolaters in Acts 19 enraged at the Apostle Paul and his companions for defiling the Temple of Diana, who, in turn, cried out for two solid hours “Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”

Americans, ironically led by alleged Christians, have been crying out for over 230 YEARS :”Great is Constitution of the Americans!”

That’s right, we’re talking about idolatry!

Idolatry is not so much about statues as it is statutes, such as what one considers the supreme law of the land. There can only be on supreme law: 1) The Constitution, per Article 6, or 2) Yahweh’s moral law, per the Bible.

To attempt to futilely meld the two is to be as double-minded as were the Israelites on Mt. Carmel with Elijah: Why halt ye between two opinions? If We the People (a contemporary form of Baal) be God, serve them. If Yahweh be God, serve Him!
