Feds Recommend Jail Time for Bannon

-

The Justice Department is recommending a six-month jail sentence for for failing to comply with a congressional subpoena from the .

The recommendation is substantially harsher than the minimum sentence of one month. Prosecutors argue that Bannon deserves additional time for what they call a deliberate “bad-faith strategy of defiance and contempt” to obstruct the work of the United States .

DOJ also requests the former White House advisor be fined $200,000.

Bannon is set to be sentenced on Friday.

The New York Times has more:

Mr. Bannon “pursued a bad-faith strategy of defiance and contempt” from the moment he received the subpoena last year seeking records and testimony about his knowledge of Mr. Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election, culminating in the violent assault on the Capitol, prosecutors said in a sentencing memo to Judge Carl J. Nichols, who is overseeing the case.

The prosecutors noted that Mr. Bannon, who is set to be sentenced by Judge Nichols on Friday, deserved a penalty harsher than the minimum term of one month in jail because he had blatantly brushed off the committee's demands and then attacked it in a series of brazen public statements.

Mr. Bannon, on the eve of his trial in Federal District Court in Washington, also tried an 11th-hour attempt to derail the criminal case by asking Congress to pressure the Justice Department to drop its charges in exchange for his belated testimony to the Jan. 6 committee.

Mr. Bannon had at first sought to defend himself by arguing that he could not comply with the subpoena because Mr. Trump had asserted executive privilege over his testimony. He also tried to argue that in disobeying the committee's demands, he had merely been following the advice of his lawyers.

In an ominous sign for Bannon, Judge Nichols dismissed those arguments in pretrial rulings.

Additionally, Bannon faces a litany of criminal charges in New York, including two felony counts of money laundering and one felony count of defrauding donors who gave money to his border security nonprofit, We Build the Wall.

If found guilty of those charges, Bannon, 68, will face up to 15 years in prison.

  1. If they max out on his sentence, it will only drive more Conservatives to the polls.
It will show once again, how the Left uses the DOJ to punish their political foes.
    REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

  2. I own and operate a 55+ mobile home park and guess what? They will all be voting Republican this time around. The wrong people seem to be going to jail. How is it that Biden can steal our tax dollars? I recall in earlier years that things had to be passed by Congress.

  3. Democrats punish Republicans for actions that offend the Democrats and Republicans have no grounds to successfully punish the Democrats. Seems no matter which party is in office, the Democrats have control and seem to get away with crime always on some justification or technicality. Seems win or lose, the Democrats control the Country and the Justice system.

    • That’s why we need some tough republicans. We’ve had enough of these “just get along” republicans. No more rinos!

    • If the Republicans always cave and ‘reach across the aisle’ like Mitch McConnell and Casper Milquetoast, then that’s exactly what will happen. The Republicans must awaken to realize how extreme and uncompromising the DemonCrats are.
