A woman who admitted she threatened to assassinate President Donald Trump — even posting online that she would be the “next shooter” — won’t serve additional jail time after cutting a plea deal in federal court, according to filings.

The case centers on Miranda Rico Perez, 34, a Florida woman who authorities say posted a message online targeting Trump, writing: “I’ma go to your golf course and be the next shooter… be there soon,” according to investigators.

Perez was charged with making a written or electronic threat to kill or cause bodily harm. Prosecutors tied the post to her through social media records and prior interactions with law enforcement.

Under a negotiated plea agreement, Perez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 246 days of time served, along with two years of probation, avoiding additional incarceration. The court also imposed supervised release and other conditions, including behavioral restrictions and monitoring requirements.

The case drew attention in part due to Perez’s history. Court records show she had previously been involved in a separate threat case and had been found to suffer from serious mental health issues, including prior findings that she was not competent to stand trial in earlier proceedings.

Legal proceedings in the most recent case moved forward after medical evaluations later determined she was competent.

Law & Crime reports:

The defendant has also been barred from possessing any firearms, ammunition, or weapons, and she must undergo a mental health evaluation and “comply with recommended mental health treatment.”

On July 14, 2025, a then-34-year-old Perez wrote in a Facebook post, “Hey Trump I’ma go to your Gulf course an be the next shooter lol I’m bored,” according to an arrest report reviewed by Law&Crime. She included two emojis, one of laughter and another of hands raised in the air – generally used to express excitement.

The message ended with the words “be there soon,” alongside a smiling-face emoji.

Authorities were able to tie the social media profile to Perez because of several photos on the page matching her state ID, as well as the Facebook photos matching her “previous booking photo when she was arrested for making threats on Facebook to shoot up” a local elementary school.

Federal authorities, including the Secret Service, treat threats against current and former presidents as serious criminal matters, even when there is no immediate evidence a suspect can carry them out. Prosecutors must still demonstrate that such statements qualify as “true threats” under federal law — meaning they reflect a genuine intent to commit violence rather than protected speech.

The outcome highlights the complex intersection of mental health, online speech, and federal threat statutes, particularly as law enforcement continues to monitor an increase in politically charged threats made on social media.

Perez’s case is now closed following the plea, though officials say similar threats will continue to be investigated and prosecuted where appropriate.
