Drone Attack Closes Moscow Airport – ‘Taste Of Its Own Medicine’

-

ALERT – In what appears to be increasing attacks inside , the third drone attack on this year forced flights to be diverted from Vnukovo International Airport and brought Russia's war in closer to its own capital – a goal of the Ukrainians.

Operations were interrupted for about three hours in the early morning of July 4. Vnukovo is the Russian capital's third-largest airport.

This was the first time a Moscow airport has had to interrupt operations due to a military threat since Moscow launched its brutal invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. (RELATED: Retired US General Says Putin Will Use Nukes In Ukraine)

However, 11 airports in southern Russia closer to the war zone have remained closed since the outbreak of fighting.

Five drones were reportedly used in the attack, which also targeted locations in the wider region around the capital. The Russian defense ministry said all the drones were shot down and there were no casualties or damage.

According to Aviation Week: “Russian reported that two of the aircraft were intercepted over the settlement of Valuevo, just a few miles south of the airport.”

The outlet added: “A fifth drone was suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed in Odintsovo district, north of Vnukovo, the military said.”

Similar incidents took place earlier this year. On May 3, two drones were shot down over the Kremlin, with Russia accusing Kyiv of attempting to assassinate . (RELATED: Kremlin Attacked In What Russian Propaganda Calls Putin Assassination Attempt)

On May 30, two people were injured after at least eight drones crashed in Moscow's southwest suburbs.

Business Insider reported:

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, in a post on Telegram, said there were no casualties and that all the drones were “repelled by air defense forces.” However, the incident did lead to flights being delayed for about three hours at the city's international Vnukovo Airport.

One of the drones crashed into an air base in Kubinka, outside Moscow, and another slammed into a building in the suburb of new Moscow, sparking a fire, according to TASS, a -run media outlet.

Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for Russia's foreign ministry, cast the incident as “another act of committed by Kyiv,” the outlet reported.

The irony of the official Russian response, as Russian bombs, rockets and drones rain down on Ukrainian cities, is apparently not clear to the Russians.

Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for any of the attacks. But in May, after a previous drone attack on Moscow, one expert told Insider that the Ukrainian government seemed to be giving Russia “a taste of its own medicine.” (RELATED: US Spies Warned Biden About Russian Military Revolt And Possible Loss Of Nukes)
