The Washington Post further reports:

The GOP-led Florida legislature passed a bill creating the Office of Election Crimes and Security earlier this year at DeSantis's behest. While the 2020 election went smoothly in Florida — DeSantis called it the “gold standard” for elections — the governor has said there are still issues and conservative lawmakers have sought to further tighten voting regulations.

The governor — widely considered a potential 2024 presidential candidate — heralded the arrests, saying the unit had “sprung into action to hold individuals accountable for voter fraud.” DeSantis said they had been arrested for violating the rules of a constitutional amendment passed by Florida voters in 2018 that allows formerly incarcerated people to register to vote — except for those who committed felony sexual assault or murder.

“This is just the opening salvo,” DeSantis said. “This is not the sum total of 2020.”

But voting groups and experts said that if anything the initial arrests indicate Florida's election system is robust and crimes rare. Some expressed concern that the new unit could have a chilling effect, particularly on vulnerable groups of voters, such as formerly incarcerated people who are legally entitled to vote.

But it appears to most Floridians that the announcement further bolsters DeSantis' commitment to free and fair elections.

  1. PLEASE! Get a proofreader before you post your articles.

Those people were INELIGIBLE to vote. Illegible means something cannot be read. Ineligible means someone is not permitted to perform an action, such as voting.

The worst thing to happen to the English language appears to be computers with “spell check,” but no *grammar check.”

    • You are incorrect, when a person is knowingly ineligible to vote and do it anyway, it is a crime and guess what professor, THAT’S ILLEGAL

      • John, please look up the definition of illegible.
Sabel is correct, it means something cannot be read.
Illegal and illegible are not the same word.

  2. Great need to prosecute anyone voting illegally and if they are illegals arrest removed immediately from America never allowed here for natural life that includes their families as well, Now he needs to get with Trump to be Vice President then President for eight years after Trump hopefully they together can get America back to common sense, Honor, Trust, make it a law anyone trying to Change, Twist, Distort, Ignore Our Constitution as Written we’ll be fired immediately prosecuted for Treason all assets ceased, security clearance revoked for lifetime, punishment 25 years no exceptions no excuses, if bad crime firing squad no fancy prison San Quentin at hard labor, might stop these communist politicians judges if not they go to prison or death, and soros obama, anyone trying to destroy America

  3. Outstanding!!! This should be happening all over the Country. Gov. DeSantis’ is doing the right thing for the right reasons. Florida is so lucky to have him compared to the 49 other do nothing States…

  4. BS article. Oops, I am a murderer who voted and didn’t read the fine print. No fraud yet, just arrested, not yet prosecuted, and no final decision. The ultra conservative Heritage Foundation’s Fraud Database determined that in the last 20 years nearly 1000 fraud convictions, read fines or jail, out of nearly 7 billion votes cast, including mayor, president, etc. That’s about .00000001 percent? Widespread fraud my ass!

    • You shouldn’t joke about being a murderer; it’s as bad as loudly proclaiming you have a concealed weapon just before going thru security at an airport.

Not joking? Then cut the crap about a mere 1000 fraud convictions. Determining guilt is a long drawn out process, and you need to have good access to voting records. Most importantly, it requires motivation — more motivation than any Soros-funded prosecutor or police chief or DA has to go after criminals. Did you read how the NYC mayor was up in arms about one of them, but couldn’t do anything about it because it was a state office outside his jurisdiction?
