Senator Warns Garland Not to Retaliate Against FBI Whistleblowers

-

Sen. is famously known for his frank manner of speaking. It's endeared him to the people of Iowa, whom he's represented as a senator since 1981.

Recently, Grassley weaponized that folksy characteristic with a level of effectiveness only the most senior Republican member of the could muster.

The target of Grassley's wrath? U.S. Attorney General .

Garland issued an internal memorandum at the end of August that read more like an imperial edict. In it, Garland prohibited Justice Department (DOJ) employees from communicating with Congress members at a time when a growing number of whistleblowers have corroborated allegations of political bias at the Bureau.

Grassley warned Garland in a letter that retaliation against whistleblowers is illegal. He further reminded Garland of the darker moments in the FBI and DOJ's history, including violations of whistleblower protection laws.

“Accordingly,” Grassley stressed, “I'd like to remind the Department that, as a basic matter of law, all employees of the U.S. Government have a right to petition Congress or furnish information to Congress.”

Per The Washington Times:

The sharp words added to mounting tension between Republican lawmakers and Mr. Garland, whose Justice Department has been accused of anti-conservative bias and launching politically motivated investigations including the unprecedented FBI search on former President 's home in Florida.

FBI whistleblowers recently revealed that bureau officials sabotaged an investigation of Hunter Biden's business dealings and tax affairs by labeling verified evidence as “disinformation.” Those efforts coincided with Hunter Biden's father, President Biden, campaigning for the White House in 2020.

Those allegations have been further corroborated by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who said in an interview with Joe Rogan that Facebook used an algorithm to suppress the Hunter Biden story for a crucial seven-day window during the homestretch of the .

Two days before Garland's Aug. 30 memo to DOJ employees, the Technometrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP) released a poll showing that 78% of Americans believed former President Donald Trump would've won reelection if voters were told the truth about Hunter Biden's laptop in a timely manner.

TIPP's survey of 1,335 adults has a margin of error of +/- 2.8%.

The Washington Times further reports:

Mr. Grassley, an Iowa Republican and the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, is known for championing whistleblower protection laws, specifically the FBI Whistleblower Enhancement Protection Act.

Mr. Garland's memo ordered DOJ employees to cease communicating with members of Congress and their staff. It said that all communication with Congress must be conducted through the department's office of legislative affairs.

While Garland's memo acknowledged whistleblowers are protected, critics say that he deliberately glossed over their rights to discourage future whistleblowers by implying through omission there could be reprisals if they speak directly to Congress.

The Washington Times noted in a separate piece how FBI management at field offices from Miami to Salt Lake City stand accused of corruption, from signing false affidavits to artificially padding performance stats to sexual harassment and that they allegedly retaliate against agents who attempt to expose their behavior.

House say the “appalling” allegations warrant aggressive investigations, but first, they need to retake the majority to have the tools to seize additional evidence and conduct depositions.

In the meantime, whistleblowers continue to speak directly with Republican members of Congress to help ensure their protection.

Speaking to a reporter, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) shared what one agent told him:

“The guy told me that he loves the bureau, that he doesn't want to see the bureau defunded or destroyed, but that he really feels a need to come forward so that there's a focus on the things they ought to be doing, not trying to affect political outcomes.”

The latest RealClearPolitics (RCP) election forecast predicts Republicans will pick up two seats in the Senate, winning a 52-48 majority. For the House, RCP rates 218 seats as safe, likely or leans GOP. Thirty-four seats are in the most competitive toss-up category. Of those, 28 are held by . Republicans need to hold at least 218 seats to have a majority in the House.

FiveThirtyEight estimates Democrats have a 69% chance of holding onto the Senate while giving Republicans a 74% chance of reclaiming the House with 57 days to go until the election.

Fifty-seven days — a lifetime in politics.

  1. WHAT GOOD IS COMMENTING???? OUR VOICES CAN NOT RIGHT ANY OF THE WRONGS HAPPENING. IT GETS MORE AGGRAVATING DAILY. OPEN YOUR MINDS AND EYES TO ALL THE HAPPENINGS NOW.

  2. Garland has committed an open act of retaliation which is ILLEGAL under the whistleblower act. His message can be construed as intimidation which allows any and all whistleblowers to be monetarily compensated for his actions. They can be compensated up to $300 THOUSAND per person affected. This would cost US around SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS of our tax dollars for his intimidation tactics.

  3. There is corruption in and all around Washinton. From the President, Congress, FBI, and the CIA. What are the people supposed to do? We The People do not have voice in this country anymore at all. They never ask us what we want, if they did, we would have never gotten into the mess we are in now. You people in Washington are supposed to represent us, but how can you when you decide what we want? You never ask, you just do. Not one of you. but all of you.

  4. Did anyone really think that this administration wouldn’t get even for someone speaking truth when it went against them???
