Taxpayers to Sue After This City Donates Quarter Million to Planned Parenthood

-

A group of , N.M. taxpayers are threatening to sue the city over a planned $250,000 donation of tax funds to Planned Parenthood.

The Albuquerque City Council voted in May to spend $250,000 to “sponsor” Planned Parenthood after a draft of the United States opinion was leaked indicating the court would rule to overturn its 1973 decision and allow states to decide their own laws. “While extremists attack choice nationwide and the Supreme Court seems poised to take away women's rights and control of their own bodies, we affirmed our respect and support for women's reproductive freedoms. I'm proud to have sponsored this amendment to provide vital support for Planned Parenthood” said Tammy Fiebelkorn, District 7 City Councilor.

The $250,000 was secured by cutting it from another program.

Represented by the Liberty Justice Center, a national, nonprofit, Supreme Court-winning law firm, the taxpayers allege the funds violate the Anti-Donation Clause of the Constitution, which prohibits the government from making donations of taxpayer funds to private groups, outside of funding to operate specifically-approved programs. The $250,000 to Planned Parenthood is an open-ended gift made for the express purpose of political messaging.

“Managing Attorney Daniel Suhr sent a demand letter to the City Council on Friday, Aug. 12, outlining how the council's actions are illegal and clearly violate New Mexico's protections against political abuse of taxpayer funds through donations,” the Liberty Justice Center reports.

“The City Council's appropriation of $250,000 to Planned Parenthood in the wake of the leak of the decision is a political stunt, a gift, and an appropriation of something of value, not a bona fide contract for services,” the group's demand letter states.

“The City Council clearly has not required any consideration in exchange for its sponsorship of Planned Parenthood. It is a gift to Planned Parenthood, no strings attached. New Mexico court precedents and opinions of the attorney general's office show that the sponsorship of Planned Parenthood is a donation,” the letter states.

“This donation undermines longstanding protections in the state constitution preventing the abuse of public funds for political purposes. Government entities are barred from making no-strings-attached donations to benefit private organizations and individuals,” said Suhr in a statement.

“If the donation is not returned to the city, our attorneys are prepared to file suit to enforce the New Mexico Constitution on behalf of our clients and every taxpayer in Albuquerque who does not want their tax dollars to be used to advance the political pet projects of a few city councilors,” said Suhr.

  1. Just think: Had the constitutional framers (like their early 1600s predecessors) established government and society upon the Bible’s immutable/unchanging moral law (including Exodus 20:13, 21:22-23, Deuteronomy 27:25, etc.), no one would have ever heard of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood wouldn’t exist, and millions of infants slaughtered in their mothers’ wombs would have lived to see the light of day.

For more on how the Bible’s triune and integral moral law (the Ten Commandments and their respective statutes and judgments apply and should be implemented as the law of the land, see free online book “Law & Kingdom: Their Relevance Under the New Covenant” at Bible versus Constitution dot org. • Going to start keeping the Bible Sabbath? Saturday? That is the Fourth Commandment. What are you going to do about that pesky rule of no religious test required to hold a public office? JEFFERSON wouldn’t like your group. What about it?

  2. Something tells me the citizens didn’t sign up for this use of their tax dollars and why in the hell does the federal government do the same thing with tax dollars? And they should be sued for fraud, there is nothing planned about them. Contraceptives would be planning. I once lived in Philly and heard about women with multiple abortions

  3. gee–sounds like concerned taxpayers should grant themselves a 10% ‘principle’ reprieve on their taxes. . .quid pro quo. . .

  4. Not a Fing penny of Taxpayers Money should ever be giving to abortion, illegals, and enemy countries, and it needs to be an overhaul of amount to politicians not over 150. Dollars that includes corporations these people need to get out and run around the country to see what really is happening to even earn 150. Dollars

    • And now, PP is transitioning to providing gender “affirming” care services. I think I read they’re already 40% of the market for those services.

  5. Now watch the good citizens of Albuquerque get branded as ‘ultra-right extremists.’ And that in response to their righteousness.

  6. Id Sue the pants off the damn city. What right do they have to make that decision without first discussing it with the people

  7. Since abortions in America disproportionately affect African Americans, around 40% or more of all abortions are to Black children while the population of Blacks is only 13% of the population, put another way, three times the number of non-Blacks, isn’t Planned Parenthood RACIST?
Further, Margaret Sanger, a known and self-identified advocate of depopulation of Blacks was the FOUNDER of Planned Parenthood.
Therefore, supporting Planned Parenthood with public money would make every taxpayer a RACIST!

  8. This is total corruption and every single person on that commission should be charged with it. You cannot make a political donation to Planned Parenthood from taxpayer funds, because of of Planned Parenthood donations go to Democrat officeholders which I will bet these commissioners are with. What if they donated $250,000.00 to the NRA? My, how that would change things. Plus, the HYDE AMENDMENT prohibits taxpayer funds to be used for abortions. CORRUPTION!
