Monday’s decision follows an executive order signed on Jan. 23, 2025, directing the declassification of all remaining documents concerning these assassinations and their subsequent investigations. The order mandated Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to develop a plan to release the JFK records within 15 days and the RFK and MLK records within 45 days.
While previous releases have made a significant portion of these records public, some documents remained classified due to national security concerns. The upcoming release is expected to include the final set of documents, offering historians and the public a more comprehensive understanding of these pivotal events.
Administration officials have indicated that initial reviews suggest these documents may not contain groundbreaking revelations. However, the release is anticipated to attract significant attention from both history enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists.
The development underscores the ongoing efforts to balance transparency with national security considerations in the disclosure of historical records.
