Rumors have circulated for months that California Governor Gavin Newsom will mount a presidential campaign.
The young, telegenic Democratic governor has repeatedly denied those claims. However, there's no denying he could be a formidable primary challenger to an aging President Biden.
Of course, Newsom's trip to communist China, where he met with President Xi Jinping, did nothing but add fuel to the fire.
During the highly unorthodox visit, the Golden State's chief executive had an awkward interaction with a small child during a pickup basketball game:
One X user said his moves reminded him of “Michael Scott from the Office.” Conservative commenter Benny Johnson joked the interaction made Newsom the “perfect replacement for Joe Biden.”
The video showed Newsom dribbling and playing basketball with a group of Chinese students. While running, he ran into one student and fell on top of the boy.
Newsom quickly reached over, grabbed the boy and pulled him off, laughing and slapping the child's backside in the process.
The situation came off as bizarre to many people on Sunday with some once again questioning why Newsom is in China in the first place.
…
Newsom met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday for the purpose of “renewing our friendship and reengaging (on) foundational and fundamental issues that will determine our collective faith in the future.” This was part of a week-long trip that will also address the threat of climate change.
The governor faced criticism for meeting with Xi during a period of historically bad U.S.-China relations.
